Sad statement from Voyetra, regarding Santa Cruz & SMP

I wrote Voyetra describing some problems with the Santa Cruz and my VP6 / Win2K. I received this response:

"Generally speaking, PCI sound cards do not work well in dual processor
systems. What basically happens is that the processors divide their duties
and create a poor environment for audio applications, with choppy, skipping
audio and possible system crashes. It is for this reason that we do not
recommend PCI sound cards for dual processor systems, as we are not able
to provide assistance for the types of problems that dual processors can
create.

"As you have indicated, other sound cards will most likely exhibit the same
behavior. Unfortunately, there is no amount of system tweaking that could
resolve this (unless only one processor is used).

Since the VP6 has no ISA slots, PCI is the only option! Or are there USB sound "cards"? and would they be any better?

Yes there are usb soundcard/speaker combos. Altec Lansing has some, I owned one and it worked well but it sure uses usb bandwidth.
