It's usually a person, wearing ipod headphones for some reason, with some sad song playing and no other audio. The person is on the screen and they lift up index cards with text on them, usually stories about how bad their life is.

The answer is about the same as the answer to "Why do people take pictures of themselves for their myspace photo by holding a camera above and in front of themselves and looking sad?"
