Do you floss every night? Brush at least twice a day for minimum of 3 minutes? Root canals aren't that bad, had mine done about a year ago.

flossing is annoying but once you get in the habit you can do it easily. I floss just at night and most of the time on the weekend. Nothing more embarassing than the dentist barely touching your gums and they bleed because you never floss

i always wondered about gums and flossing, why do gums recede if you do not floss? isnt the area between your teeth just a tiny part of the gum?

You should floss every night. I got into the habit once I got root canal after realizing that I have to take care of my teeth better. Once you get good at it, it only takes a couple of minutes.

gums generally recede from plaque and calculus (plaque that has hardened due to calcium deposition).

The importance of flossing is to prevent interproximal cavities, i.e decay in between teeth where they touch. This causes what is called a Class II caries which decays into your teeth from the side, these will pretty much only show up on radiographs and will not present itself in anyway shape or form from a in-the-mouth exam.

Funny this thread popped up again

My appointment is next week, what is interesting is the pain I was having on the gums above my molar on the tooth in question near the roots is now gone for some reason. It started last week but gradually got better and is now gone. Any ideas?

I had a root canal done a few months ago. It wasn't that bad. It's really more of a strange feeling than a pain feeling. Having the dentist jam a 1/2 to 3/4 inch long piece of metal into your tooth and wiggle it around (or worse, if you have very curved canals) feels pretty weird.
