Our PDC went down Thursday, only today we managed to make the other DC act as PDC, and fix all the other issues that cascated from this. Tonight in about half an hour we are bringing down ALL the servers for patching, adding redundancy to our fax server (we know hardly anything about how it works AND it's not backed up - this better work!).

Yeah, I don't drink, but those bottles really look appealing right now. :p I might as well start smoking too.

I call shens his text isn't slurred.

That's because he's using a SVI interface. ;)

It's the wooden rack's inability to maintain a common ground. Wait until your domain controller (PDC does not apply to Active Directory domains btw!) gets stuck on "Active Directory is Rebuilding Incidies" forever! :D

p.s. There's at least half a dozen of those bottles in your basement!

Actually we learned the hard way that PDC *DOES* apply, we also thought that it did not. When it goes down, everything else does not work. I think it has to do with the fact that it was migrated from NT4 so we have a very dirty AD environment that's not true win2003 (or 2000?) functional level even though it's set to it. They don't really call it PDC anymore, but FSMO roles, and only one server can do it, if that server goes down, the trust goes down with it.

And speaking of wooden server racks, I scrapped my old plan due to normal lumber expanding too much and potential fire hazard if a piece of equipment decides to go bad like a UPS. Might get a 4 post real rack as they are cheaper and just build my enclosure/air venting around it and paint it black. Black makes servers faster and more reliable.
