I'm in the mood for a action rpg like Diablo and I want to try out Sacred 2 but every time i try to download the demo (from different sites), it always fails to install because it can't open a file or 2.

any ideas where i can get this demo and get it to work?

I got my Sacred 2 demo from FileFront and it worked fine: http://files.filefront.com/Sac...1927753;/fileinfo.html

I didn't liked it though, I instead went for Titan Quest Gold (on Steam), and that one is good enough. However Blizzard recently announced that they are working on a content patch for Diablo II (they themselves said it would rejuvenate many of the aspects of the game, time will tell, in my book they're trying to implement some of DIII's features in DII for testing purposes), and ever since they announced that I re-installed DII in preparation, and honestly I can't wait to come back to it, I haven't touched it in months, in fact almost a year now.

I loved Titan Quest, and I'm loving Sacred 2. But holy hell the bastard that thought up their update system needs to be shot....

ended up buying and downloading it from STEAM. Seems pretty cool so far. I wish you could do more with the camera - it seems to be too close up for my tastes. I'm still a bit confused on what skills and stuff to take/use and some other game aspects, even after looking ta the manual. One review I read said that there was a lot of walking, and he sure was right. I'm playing as a Seraphim and there really haven't been many challenges so far. Everything seems to die in a few hits and unless i'm super mobbed by enemies, my health really doesn't take much of a hit. Most of the challenges are figuring out where to go for a quest, despite it showing you on the map. I currently have 2 people following me because I needed to escort them out of a city but I have no idea where to take them and looking at my quest list isn't helping either.

Over all, it's a basic hack and slash type game ala diablo and titan quest. I think I am enjoying this game more than TQ though.

oh, and how can you not like a game with BLIND GUARDIAN in it!?!?!? It's cool hearing their music in the game.

What difficulty are you playing it at? I started on Silver, but lots of people actually recommend playing on Gold right away. I haven't tried Gold, but on a discussion forum I used to go lots of people there considered Platinum and Niobium absolute craziness. And indeed there's lots of walking, and to add to that the game's world is actually very big for that genre, it'd be comparable to something like Morrowind but for a hack and slash game, it's just intimidating at first, but you're not obliged to explore it entirely.

Sacred 2 only allows the player to start at Bronze or Silver, at least with SP. If someone starts on Platinum or above, they will never be able to progress as the character would take a single hit. I don't play MP, but I am quite sure MP goes by level only, not beating the quest line. Gold starts at level 60 I think.

Personally, Silver was a breeze even with my Inquisitor (one of the weakest characters). Transferred to Gold at level ~48 and again, wiped the floor. Moved to Platinum at ~58 and certain enemies, such as scorpions, would destroy me in about three seconds. Did some leveling in the beginning of the desert (scarabs, spiders, stone guardians) and at level 75 I am doing quite well. This is without using the bugged Inquisitor doppelganger army as well.

pontifex: escort quests are hard as sometimes the companion AI is really aggressive and charges any and all enemies, resulting in a quick death and a failed quest. Luckily, side quests are basically only good for a change of pace. For some builds, take a look at the official forums: http://forum.sacredeng.ascaron...forumdisplay.php?f=107 and the wiki is good for seeing what does what: http://www.sacredwiki.org/inde.../Sacred_2:Fallen_Angel

i did notice that the npcs i have to escort always want to either run ahead or lag behind. i've seen some of them go really low in health and then magically be back up to full a second later, but I don't know if they somehow resurrected right away or just like got healed at the last second?

Side quest NPCs die once they lose all their health. If you travel far enough away from them then they teleport back to you, but shouldn't have full health. If you use a potion on yourself, it will heal them as well as you, so that may be why they healed so quickly. They also regenerate health but not that quickly.

fwi- ive been doing some reading and there are skills to improve how much of the map you see. The character build in this game seems way more complex then d2 and I'm sure there is more then 1 way to skin a cat but I think you can mess up your build pretty bad and have a hell of a time late game.

Ugh, damn SecureROM. Granted they tried to make it better with this game, but I'm installing all my games under an admin account, and I ran (and activated) Sacred 2 under that account. I went to game in my non-admin account, and it wants me to active for that one! UGH!

Don't bother with it. Sacred 2 is horrible. Much, much worse than the original.

Sure... The camera is simply awful. I spent most of my playing time wrestling with the camera.

The story is basically "non existent". Well off course there is some sort of story, but it's really lame and uninspired.

The interface is not very good, and not very pleasant to use.

Enemies will chase you for what seems like forever, and everywhere you go unless you kill them. I had instances when certain foes would chase me into town and into the houses, but npc villagers would just stand there doing nothing with hordes of bandits or other monsters running amok. It looks really stupid. The only rare cases when npc's would land some assistance is when these npc's happened to be gate guards.

Graphics are very good, which is a shame because it feels like wasted potential.

Sacred 2 "feels" like a mediocre game overall. It has the smell of mediocrity all over it. You want to play it because it looks good, and seems deep(which it very well might be), but in the end, it's still is a very mediocre game compared to even Diablo 2 which is so much older. Hell, even the original Sacred was MUCH better, if you can ignore having to kill countless hordes of monsters again and again that respawn every time you reenter the area.

If you want to play one of those "action rpg games", I suggest playing Fate or Titan Quest.
Fate has crappy gfx, but nice and addictive gameplay. Titan Quest seems like it's dead and no one cares, but in reality it has a fan community on Titan Quest forums, and you can play multiplayer over Hamachi, which emulates a virtual LAN so you can connect to anyone out there who has it and play the game with them. Just please, do yourself a favor and don't cheat in TQ. It's too easy to cheat because so many tools are freely available, and you can cheat in multilayer. Don't do it because after you become too powerful you will lose all interest in the game.

Fate was pretty good for a few days but its singleplayer only and by the time I beat it I pretty much lost all interest in it. TQ is pretty mediocre too. I have a feeling Sacred 2 will also be another forgettable game but I'm giving it a try on lan with my brother and hoping for the best.

Well, I just played sacred 2 with my brother for 12 hours straight. Its a bit early to give a review, but we're both pretty confident in saying that its decisively better than titan quest. My only serious complaint thus far is that there are some bugs which are annoyances (map disappears and requires alt tabbing, npc's disappearing into floating heads, invisible walls, the odd crash). Up to level 20 so far, I'll have a better idea and I'll throw my thoughts up here when I'm much further in. Definitely a leg up on TQ though.

have you patched it? i'm on 2.34 (from steam). apparently there is a 2.40 patch but steam hasn't installed it yet. I haven't seen any of the things you are talking about. no crashes, nothing disappears, invisible walls etc.

my only gripes are with some of the game mechanics, like not being able use combat arts while riding a horse, not being able to use combat arts quickly (like for the high elf, you can't cast quickly), no easy way to cast spells quickly without switching to that slot and right clicking. I did have an issue with the camera where it seems like you can't see much even when zoomed all the way out but i got used to it i guess.

To fix the camera you gotta go to the main menu and make it not fixed. For the minimap, click the 'x' off of rotation, that'll keep north always up on the minimap, helps a lot as you can look ahead of yourself a bit more. I play high elf, basically you wanna not eat too many runes cus it makes your cast times too high. Keep your fireball/equivalent around 2.0s or lower and your golden, its a balance between your skills which decrease cooldowns and your CA levels which increase them. To be perfectly honest I was playing a free version of the game if you catch my drift, patched to 2.12, but I went out and bought it based on it being above expectations and will patch up to 2.4 asap. You can't cast CA's on a horse, but you can on your 'epic' mount which you get from a big quest. The horse also disables your buffs while the special mount doesn't, so theres a lot of reason to go for the class specific mounts.

19 hours played in 2 days, its pretty solid. Diablo 2 > Sacred 2 > Dungeon Siege 1 > Titan Quest
