I'll be visiting Sacramento in a few weeks for a wedding and was looking for some advice from anyone familiar with the area. I'll be flying in around 3pm on friday afternoon, checking into my hotel and then heading out for the day/night to see whats around.

The two hotels I'm looking at are the Hyatt next to Capitol Park and the Marriott by the UC Davis Medical Center. The Hyatt is 250 for the weekend and I get free breakfast whereas the Marriott is about 210 for the weekend. I'll have to take a shuttle to either since I won't have a car, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if either area has more to walk around and see and do (sights, attractions, and bars for the evening). If both areas are comparable I'll probably save the 40 bucks and stay at the Marriott, but I know alot of the guests are staying at the Hyatt so if the area offers more, I'll probably opt for that.

Does anyone from the area or who has visited the area have any input? Thanks.

Stay near the Capitol. UC Davis Med Center is on the edge of the hood. One block and you are deep in the ghetto.

Downtown near the capitol is where all the night life is and all the great restaruants.

There's a small UCD med center in the heart of mid town. Isn't that where the Hyatt is? UC Davis Hospital is the one near the hood. Mid town is beautiful.......almost all old victorian houses and it's a quick walk to the little pubs with the local bands.

I was just looking at the googlemaps overhead view, the Hyatt is on the green Capitol Park on 12th and L, the Marriott is on Y street in the pink UCD Med Center complex it appears.

Then I'd say the Hyatt for sure.

J is the main drag over there and you'll only be a couple blocks from there. 12th is going to be really close to downtown which starts around 8th or so.

Sounds like the hyatt is in a better place for walking around and seeing stuff then. Are there any things I really should see or any cool places for food/drinks in the evening around the hotel?

I'd spend the 40 bucks and be happy at a better hotel.

You're staying pretty close to the capitol (I work at 4th and capitol) and the capitol is pretty much at 10th and capitol. If you go west down L St, Downtown plaza is a small open air mall with some decent stores (Macys is only big department store) and they have an outdoor ice skating rink at K and 8th. If you continue down L St past the 5 freeway, the area from the 5 to the river and above 275 (capitol mall) and the I street bridge is old sacramento, where there are some old brick buildings and some restaurants. Across the river is also the old Money Store building (looks like those aztec pyramids.

There are currrently three construction big construction zones, at 3rd and capitol, 5th and capitol and 7th and capitol. Depending on which one you go to, you can see them either smashing down the old building, pounding support beams into the ground, or building the infrastructure for a building.

Thats all I really feel like typing now.

ugg im glad i moved out of sacramento, honestly there really isnt much to do there, maybe go see sutters fort or the capital but other than that theres nothing great about sacramento but the river is always fun but not at this time of the year. if you have time go to san francisco or lake tahoe which actually are fun to be at. my bro went to uc davis and there really isnt much there, either
