SACD

Peter Gabriel has some great SACD recordings as well and is always in my player.

Careful with SACD, some are VERY well done and truly show it off. Others the recording is pretty crappy (compare it to a "decent" CD recording)

8/10, IMHO - pretty dang good, but his stuff is always extremely well recorded if not reference material. with DSOM running about a 9.5 for me.

I forget the site but there is a place that runs down the SACD titles in terms of quality.

It's pretty much a wash. Technology wise they are both great so it all comes down to titles. I was trying to entice some trolls, looks like they didn't take the bait.

i'm reading now that SACD has some distortion at higher frequencies and the watermarking can degrade sound quality, comments?

Dire Straits -- Brothers in Arms just got released on it -- both as SACD and DVD-A -- the person who created the discs says the DVD-A version is better.

you better believe it. CDs have always had a "harsh edge". SACD approaches analog quality and sounds more "musical"
