To my knowledge, a SACD is basically a DVD. So do I need a special reader for a SACD or will my DVD readers work fine?

SACD is not a DVD. While it may sometimes be on a disc similar to a DVD-5/9, it is not a DVD.......and yes, based on that fact, you will need a special reader.

I think some DVD players support SACD, you'd have to check the manual. And of course most decent audio equipment should support it.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to play them on a computer. The laser technology is basically the same as DVD, but software isn't available for PC to decrypt and decode the DSD signal.

Also hybrid SACD can be played in a computer or normal CD player, but you need an SACD compatible player to take advantage of the high fidelity features the disc offers.

The original PS3 60 GB model was a SACD player, but they're expensive and have no warranty (repairs cost $150).

Your best bet would be take the audio from a SACD compatible dvd player and input into your pc if you have the necessary connections.
