As long as it doesn't ramp up too high, though, shouldn't be bad. You probably wouldn't really need a lot of airflow to keep most of the motherboard components cool.

If it's anything like my Sabertooth the bottom pcie slot is also for SLI/XFire, it needs a custom cooling solution or extended case for triple. But this arrangement is heaps better for dual setups imho.

I've placed an order for one to replace my crippled P67A-UD7. Should be here by Tuesday.

I'm a little worried about those fans though. So small, i have a feeling they are going to screm, but at the same time why would any motherboard manufacturer place loud fans on motherboards anymore??

Either way it will be interesting to test out this board!

The problem with small fans (imo) is that while they aren't loud at first, give them a month or two to pick up some dust, and then you'll start to hear them. The fan wasn't necessary on the P67, so I'm sure it wouldn't be either on the Z77.

This board confused me on so many levels. First of all, the fancy shroud leaves me with the impression that this is being marketed as some kind of extreme high performance board, but the specs on the ASUS website show this board only has 50% of the power phases of another of their z77 boards and only 75% of another yet.

Also, there are two fans build into this dust shroud thing and they are both explained to be "optional." How could you engineer a board with a massive ventilation system that is optional? It is either needed or it is not.

No display output and yet I see unused PCB space at the back. Such design only invites dust. Thumbs down.

I think it has both display port and hdmi. That gaping hole is for one of the two optional dust injection fans.

I had a look at its selling price and I'm not getting it. I'm paying a lot just for a piece of plastic shroud that serves no purpose other than cosmetic. I was really hoping for the price I pay, I'd get some monitoring features like voltage check points. As far as the Thermal Radar goes, I'll have the Lamptron fan controller do that for me.

I've got the P67 version. I threw a fan on more for fun and it did drop the temperatures by a degree or two. Nothing substantial. I assume it's the same for this version. If you leave everything on default then the little fan makes the expected high frequency noise but I flipped it to silent and the only time I can hear it now is when I'm really pushing the system hard. The little fan combined with the shield does keep temps lower when I am pushing it but again it's not by enough to care.

The big fear with this board was that over time dust would gather underneath. I've kept an eye on the temps and they haven't gone up any in the past year or so. The plastic shield is 90% marketing gimmick but I personally think the board looks cleaner with that crap on there.

As a side note I had to pull apart my GTX590 heat sink to clean it out a month or so ago because it was getting way too hot. There was enough dust that it dropped the temperatures by about 20 degrees under load. This tells me that there is enough dust to block the sabretooth but it hasn't yet... or if it has there isn't enough to raise temps.
