i hope so, i was just about to put an order for a 3200 venice, and asrocks dual... should I wait? Not sure what to do. This cpu sounds like it will be great.. almost like a FX chip with a lower multi.

Nice mobo, no PCI-X though. I dont think we're actually gonna see this...

Also, I wouldnt count on overclocking features.

Monarch has a bunch of 100 series opterons but the description is really lousy and i can't really tell what i am looking at.

yeah they must be, i didn't even know there was a 1xx series on s940, monarch appears to be the only place that sells them.

edit: NM tankguys has the old 140 series, they are actually 130nm s940. far from what we want.

Dont think much will happen to this thread unless we can ACTUALLY find some socket 939 Opterons out there, heh.

Yeah, I've been looking but it doesn't look good so far. From what I've seen, one site in the Czech Republic (of all places [/i]) has them in stock, and then another in the UK lists them in stock, £99.95 for the 144 (about $183). That's still a bit higher priced than I'd like, plus I'm not sure about motherboard compatibility. I will be keeping an eye on it, though.

They WILL work on any mobo, since they're san diegos. The only thing is that it will be recognized as an "Unknown hammer" if you dont have bios support.

Ah, ok. I had read that they might not boot at all, which is why I was concerned.

Now we just need an adventurous soul to order from here. ;)

You'd think so, wouldn't you? :p

Unfortunately they don't seem to be on preorder anywhere (at any place I'd trust to have my credit card number, anyway). ;)

You certain that these are the socket 939 variety? If so, I might be tempted in ordering one...

What I meant was: are you certain that if I ordered from that store I would get a socket 939 opteron? Because I see no mention of it being socket 939 from that link, and noone has mentioned this UK store at xs.org

I'd like to see a comparison of the opteron to an A64 venice or San Diego in terms of gaming performance...then I'd maybe jump on one. The OC seems insane.
