S754 MB with 4 Memory Slots

Hi all,

I have the ECS 754 combo from a few months back and have a need to go to 2 GB of RAM. I have 4 sticks of 512 PC3200 Corsair that I would like to use with my Sempron 3100, and would like to know if there is a MB out there that would do it. My current MB only has 2 slots. I know that I could buy more Ram, but Since this will be the secondary mahcine after Vista is realeased and I buy a new one, I would hate to waste the RAM that I have. Oh and I need this to be AGP 🙂
Thanks In advance.

Yep, the memory controller for S754 supports a maximum of three unbuffered DIMMs. To get four DIMMs, you would need to go with all registered DIMMs. If such a board exists, it likely is a fairly rare low-volume BTO jobby made for server or industrial PC segment.

The problem is electrical load. With three double-sided DIMMs, the signal quality on the DDR bus degrades enough (no matter whose memory controller it is!) to kick it back to DDR200 (100 MHz) operation. There is no lower speed than that, so that's where it's got to end.

there is no board that has 4 dimm slots for 754.ive built over 50 754 systems in the last 18 months and no where have i run across 4 dimm slots on ant brand of board.

So then I need to decided if I am better off buying a 2X1 GB memory kit to give me two Gigs, or buying a 3 Dimm board for 1.5 . I need the ram for the extra virtual mahcines I am running and was trying to find the best use for this hardware. I know that I am building a new PC post Vista, so I wanted to get the best bang for the buck out of the stuff I had already and it looks like the 2 GB kits are way up there🙂
Thanks for all of your help.
