S750C =>> SX830 = +5 temp rise?

So just today I got my new case (long story as to why no more Supermicro behemoth). And after transfering everything over - in the same way that it was installed prior. My CPU temp is now riding around at 49-50º (57-58 after closing something CPU intensive) C (side off or on - and all four fans going). With the Supermicro case it was at or around 44-45º C (with the side off, 'cause of a nasty vibration).

Guess what I'm wondering is, is this normal? I had less fans on the Supermicro (two 80mm in front, and a 92mm above the PS) than i do with the Antec (two 80mm fore and aft).

Oh, and I'm running a Alpha PAL HS.

You could have changed the way the T-Bird was seated on the heatsink when you changed cases. They should be the same temp with both cases open. I noticed this when I was checking different heatsinks on my Abit KT7 T-Bird 750 at 950Mhz. It took 3 tries to get the Alpha to drop back down in idle and full load temp. Now I am at 26c idle 38c full load. With it mounted wrong I am at 52c full load. Wrong is defined as: not flat on the slug, not perfectly even compound, a fingerprint or piece of fuzz from cleaning the core left behind. These will all change the temp. Try, try try again. My case is a Antec SX830 with the covers on!

You must have upset the Cpu/HSF. My Antec SX830 lowered my full load CPU temos from 39-41 to 31-35. You did not mention what the case temps are. Are they higher or lower if higher you must have something blocking air flow my case temp are the same as ambeint room temp

I've figured out my problem. After watching my CPU temp race towards 60ºC while just surfing the net last night - I tore off the alpha and found that the heat sink paste had migrated away from the CPU die (danger will robinson). I would have to agree that it likely came from the jossling of the heatsink during the movement from cases. No matter I reapplied some paste and put the alpha back on (without the fan, its much easier that way) then affixed the fan, started her up nary a problem. I ran prime 95 last night and this morning for about an hour each and CPU heat didn't top 35ºC. Oh, and case heat is 20-21ºC in both old and new cases.

Another bit of information for my mental checklist ...
