S3 to Return to the Graphics Market [6:07 pm] Rat
As we have learned recently, S3 is really going to return to the graphics market, as Mr. Paul Ayscough has claimed before. However, it will return not to the ?gaming? market (where NVIDIA and ATI have taken the dominating position now), but to the professional graphics market. As is announced, a new chip from S3 should be released in the end of 2001. We dare suppose that this chip will become the basis for the famous FireGL graphics cards family, which hasn?t been cancelled or sold to anyone yet. S3 has some really promising contracts and should supply these cards according to the orders already made, which is very likely to continue in the future. So, everything looks quite logical.
They are only aiming at business, but probably they will enter 3D some time in the future with a blast.... who knows..?
