There appeared some very strange rumors in the web about S3 returning to the desktop graphics market in a year or a year and a half. Here is a quote from Zdnet:
As for S3 Graphics, the company has admittedly taken a drubbing in the competitive PC graphics market and will bow out of discrete graphics cards for now. "We're going to take a rest," says the S3 Graphics spokesman [Paul Ayscough]. "We'll be back with a new product in 12 to 18 months' time."
To tell the truth, this seems quite doubtful, however, no one could prevent the company from putting this promise into practice. However, what was the use of selling the graphics subdivision to VIA then? No idea...
