S3 Standby question and Logitech keyboard

Hello,

I am trying to make my computer go into S3 Standby mode and be remotely awakable via a Wake-On LAN cable (after a recent Slashdot article explained how to do it) and also via the sleep button on my keyboard. I have configured ACPI in my BIOS to S3, and it works. If I select Start - Turn Off Computer - Standby, the computer correctly goes into S3 Standby. I can hear the fans turn off, and the front blue light on my Antec Sonata case turns itself off. If I then press the power button on the front of the case, there is a loud beep and the system comes out of Standby.

I am trying to make the same thing happen with the Sleep button on my Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro keyboard. When I hit the button, the computer correctly goes into Standby. But when I hit it again, nothing happens. I looked up the problem on the Microsoft site, and their technote said that I had to go into the Control Panel - Keyboard - Hardware - Properties and then Power Management. The idea is I need to enable "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby". But I have no Power Management tab for this keyboard. The MS site also said that if no PM tab exists, the keyboard doesn't support the wake feature. However, apparently this keyboard does. Does anyone know how to get it to work? I am sure if I can get to that missing tab, I can make this work.

I have tried both with the iTouch software (and drivers) installed, and uninstalled (using MS drivers). But same thing, no tab. The KB is hooked up to a PS/2 port, but I can also plug it into a USB port (haven't tried that yet). I am using XP. Any ideas?

Thanks,
BM.

Axe Logitech. In the meantime, enable an alternate wakey method in the mobo setup (keyboard or double-click mouse &c.).

I have tried with both kb and mouse in PS/2 slots, and am now configured with the one connection to the cordless hub in the USB port. Same thing, no power management tab. The keyboard still allows me to Standby via the Sleep button on the kb, but I can't resume from it.

I'll leave it configured in the USB port as other forums have suggested this is more likely to succeed than PS/2 ports. I don't have a specific "Allow wake from PS/2 ports" in my BIOS option either, although my BIOS does support wake-on LAN and a large number of other wake events.

Hmmm, no other guesses? Maybe my motherboard is too old to support the mouse or KB waking it up, but it does it successfully from S1 standby. I would have thought it would do it successfully from S3. I will buy a Wake-on-LAN 3-pin cable tomorrow and see if I can get the network card to wake it up, that would be most useful. If I have to hit the power button locally, it's a pain but doable. If I want to access files from upstairs when it has gone to sleep, that will be a total pain unless wake-on-LAN works.

Any other ideas? I just want the sleep button on my keyboard to wake it up when it goes on S3 Standby.

Thanks,
BM.
