S3 MultiChrome S27 Review

Well, it is past 1 AM on the west coast. 😉

Not too shabby. It would be interesting to see what they could do if they had the money ATi or nVidia has.

I read it. Interesting, but as the article concluded, not really worth it at the end of the day. they really have to get their AA-house in order.

Its nice, but they dont have MSAA!!! They use series of AA hacks to use SSAA. But they are getting there. I hope they could become big enough, but at the moment its going to be a rather BIG mountain to climb.

And the whole chrome thing sounds "cheesy". To S3 guys reading this, its WAY too cheesy.

I guess all their R&D money went into that cooler then.

Not too bad but nothing great (even for lower-mid end).

The scaling is the best part, wish ATI and Nvidia scaled the same.

Very cool, but unfortunately a bit underwhelming. It really looks like they're getting somewhere, though. Hexus didn't seem to mind using the card or encounter too many problems, and the performance was surprisingly decent compared to its competition for the most part.

I'd be very interested to see what S3 comes up with next...I've got no other 3rd GPU maker to keep an eye on now that XGI is gone.

Good to hear S3 is releasing another new product, it'd be great if they can gradually establish themselves as the third 'serious' choice.

Nice try on S3's part. But does the market need another entry in the 'around $100' budget segment? Escpecially one with multiple GPUs running at high clock rates? I'm really curious as to how many watts this baby pulls under load.

Nice to see 8 ROPs/TMUs on that card. It's clearly designed to dominate older directx7 titles. Just the card for someone wanting to play Anarchy Online for free, I guess. Lack of SM3.0 and decent AA is not an issue for a card aimed at the absolute lowest rung of the gaming segment.

Also, aren't these the guys sponsoring an all-girl gaming league? At 800x600 in an old title this thing would be no worse than a X1900XT.
