DirectX 9-compliant cards target all three consumer markets

In light of S3 Graphics' announcement of their own PCI Express GPU family comes additional info on their DeltaChrome GPUs, revealed earlier this year (more info on product line here ). X-bit Labs summarizes the new details:

Produced using 0.13 micron technology at TSMC;
8 rendering pipelines with one TMU per each;
Advanced Pixel and Vertex Shaders. Features the DeltaChrome can provide are beyond the RADEON 9700 and DirectX 9.0 specifications, according to the company?s initial claim.
DirectX 9.0 and OpenGL 1.4 support;
Memory bandwidth saving technologies;
Multisample antialiasing for OpenGL and Direct3D; Fonts antialiasing;
Multi-display capabilities;
400MHz RAMDAC integrated;
Integrated TV-Out controller, TMDS transmitter and so on;
480p / 720p / 1080i / 1080p HDTV resolutions via component (YPbPr) output, 480i standard TV output via S-video and composite output;
Programmable video engine;
AGP 8x
As reported in the link above, three DeltaChrome-based cards are planned, and The Inquirer compares these to similiar offerings from Nvidia and ATI:

Wait and see:
1. Performance will be mediocre
2. Driver issues will be rampant
3. IQ will be bad with strange texture issues

So says old guy who remembers the Virge, Savage cards.

Back in those days they weren't owned by VIA and S3 went from one finanical crisis to another which willn't happen now. There's alot of people out there with rubbish performing video cards and if S3 can get their price right they could be onto a winner.

I think you might be right, the reason Nvidia/ATI have decent drivers now is because their products have been on the shelves for a long time and they have had time to tweak and optimize the drivers and smooth out the problems. S3 Deltachrome, however, will be new territory for S3, and I foresee a few problems at launch and for the intial months after it has been released. Hopefully i'm wrong and it will be fine, but I have a nagging feeling... :beer:

We will just have to wait and see how good, the Grapichs Card does against NVidia and ATI.

And i think it could have chrome heat sinks, and chrome fans on it because it has deltachrome in its name so that could give it away.
