I bought a computer that has a S-video. People in the computer forum suggest that i should buy a s video cable. i donno what it is.

I searched for S-video on ebay and there were 1000 types of svideo cables and stuff. what do i really need watch + audio my computer on tv which has component video out?
 
most tv nowadays have S-video out

get a cables in x-mart or RadioSh!t

if your tv only have componenent video out, u may need a adaptor.

as for the audio part. get the 3.5mm to 5mm mini jack to RCA adator.

It's quite difficult to interpret your mangled wording. 🙂 You are trying to watch TV on your computer, or use your TV as a monitor?

An S-Video cable is one that hooks up to S-Video input/output ports on either end. S-Video ports look somewhat like PS/2 ports. Any kind of the length you need will do fine (making sure that the ends are matched to what you need).
 
Well.. I want to watch my dvds, divx, cds on tv. I do not have a dvd player. But i have a computer equipped with Svideo. 😀
 
1. It seems like you have an S-video OUTPUT on your pc.

2. If so you can output what you on your monitor onto a tv.

3. You said you have component-in for your tv. S-video is a cable that carries JUST the VIDEO signal as component but on one cable. For reference, Component is the best, then S-video, composite, then coaxial.

4. Just go into any Radioshack or similar electronics store and get an S-VIDEO cable.

5. Obviously as Isaid, S-VIDEO only caries video. If you would like to output your sound into your tv, you will need to get audio cables.

6. Most pc's use the minijack(headphone) style jack to output stereo sound. You will need to convert that to hte coaxial calbe that your tv will accept. Composite cables are the red, white and yellow inputs on your tv.

6. Radioshack sells y-adapater that will convert a manijack output to a composite output. It should not cost more than $8.

7. This will be plugged in in your speaker out jack on the pc ,and on video1 on your tv. Then plugin your s-video to your tv .

2. S-Video carries color and brightness on the cable. Component carries red, green, and blue signals, and I forget which cable the sync signal is sent on.

3. RGBHV is the best followed by your list, but you rarely see it so I won't bug you too much about it. 🙂

6. Just to add, the yellow cable carries the video and is called a composite cable.

I have a compaq 730US laptop. It has a S-video out. The S-video cable you mentioned has s-video on both ends. right? Does radioshack also sell a S-video to component (my tv has co-ax and component, no s-video)

I can connect speakers for audio. so it is not problem for now. 😀
 
So, I need to buy y-adapater that will convert a manijack output to a coax output. It should not cost more than $8. Thanks man.
 
Actually it is called composite....

if you have a reciever etc please let us know..there are far better sounds you can get out of that lappy

If you are talking about audio coax cables, they're not called composite cables. Just the yellow one in the triplet.

That is what I had said...I changed it so it would make it either....check my post before the edit...

Either way, AMEXBLUE, that is the wrong cable.


The s-video had the circle-shaped s-video connection on both ends.
You found a s-video to composite converter...not a good idea if you want quality.


as for the audio cable, one end has a 'headphone' connector and the other end has to composites...red and white...just like the connector on the right in your picture.
