S-Video vs. Composite video

I bought a DELL 2407WFP to be dual used as a secondary monitor and as a TV. right now I have the output from my satellite box going to the monitor via composite (the yellow cable from the red/white/yellow set) and the picture is so-so, and I was wondering if S-Video will give me a better picture. and yes I realize that a 600x800 (or so) picture isnt going to look spectacular on a 1920 x 1200 monitor, but will it make a difference?

yep. The difference between composite and s-video is literally HUGE! It's probably the biggest jump in video quality between two means of transmission there is.

Without getting too technical essentially you are separating the color from the contrast. This provides much better color separation (colors don't bleed into each other) and edge detail.
 
Boy, the responses haven't exactly been consistent, have they?

I suspect your 14 bucks was worth it. I don't hold with those who say it is "HUGE!", but I would pay 14 bucks for the difference if I planned to use that display long term.
