s-video to component cable

So I'm sitting here thinking while I'm putting my new hd 2600 pro agp into the old media center. The adapter it has is s-video to component. I thought HD content is too high bandwidth for a cable like that. Don't you need DVI, HDMI or straight component?
 
Appears VIVO is capable of 1080P from some further research... its not actually a s-video. Although ATI has s-video engraved in the metal next to it
