s-video problems showing on TV

I have a GeForce 6800 graphics card that I have connected to my TV. The s-video cable was a cheapie, but I didn't think it would make the picture this bad. Whenever I switch the monitor to the TV, it looks like an old VCR tape that has never had its tracking fixed. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this? Is it simply because the s-video cable is junk?

Is there a better way to connect my TV to the computer? My ultimate goal is to watch DVD's on my TV so I can sit on the couch.

Rolling lines and such are likely the result of poor cable and/or a ground loop. Unplug the coaxial input to the TV and see if it clears. If not, unplug all other I/O cables except the S-Video from the PC and see if it clears -depending upon the complexity of your system, other devices like a receiver or cable box with coaxial input could be carrying the ground loop back to the TV via other cables). If it clears then a cable TV RF isolator is called for (with a sufficiently high frequency spec for the source). If it does not clear then it is likely a poor cable. But again, it could be a combination of both. Another way to test and possibly even solve for the ground loop issue is to run some wire from the PC chassis to the TV's coaxial cable shield (the outer screw-on thingy) or its splitter block where available.

A better way to connect would be via component (three coaxial cables) and best, DVI.
