S-Video on a PS2

What are the benefits? I have a 46" projection TV and would like to know if getting an S-Vid cable would be worth the trouble? Does it allow the PS2 to render in a higher resolution?

S-Video and Composite are the same resolution, but S-Video has better colour satuartion becuase it separates the colour band into Y and C parts, where as Composite is only a single line for the whole colour channel.

I was just talking to two friends who recently bought PS2's, because I am considering one myself.

And both said that the SVHS cable offered improvement. One even said it was a must-have.

Ah, a HT question. I can talk to this! S-Video, as Noriaki has said, offers better picture quality because of the separation. It's actually the separation of the color and black and white parts of the picture, to be exact. The difference (visually) b/t composite and SVideo is instantly noticeable.

The best video signal you can have is Component (three individual RCA connectors) If that represents a "100% great picture", S-Video is about 85% whereas composite is about 50%. You'll see the diff. Definitley worth the $20 for the Svideo cable.
