Anyone have experience using a video card with an S-video out to use their TV as a "monitor"? My Sony XBR TV has an S-video IN jack. Just wondering if I could use that to run my computer's DVD player through my TV...

Thanks in advance for any help and/or opinions!

Yeah, it'll work although some video cards work better than others in terms of visual quality with s-video out.

of course you can, but the quality won't be exceptional. TV out on video cards isn't the best quality, but it's still decent enough to watch a movie.

Matrox for a video card. But a cheaper route that will produce better results would be to get a Hollywood+ DVD card.

if you're only going to use it for DVDs, I'd get a Hollywood+ decoder. Their TV out is much better than any vid card, and you can get one for very cheap if you look or ask in the FS/FT forum...

Sounds sweet. Sorry I am so clueless about how all this works. Can you explain exactly what a "Hollywood" is?

Okay, did some looking on Google and gotcha on the Hollywood Plus decoder. Sounds as though it works well for DVD viewing. Of course, now I have to think about if I want a TV tuner, etc. Thanks for your help!

It's a hardware DVD decoder. It's just a PCI card you add with a cable going from your video card to it. You can output to your monitor or a TV with Svideo.
