Will it even run with 4x FSAA and 16x AF on ? I try to load from a saved game and every time it loads into a gray area that looks like I am way up above in clouds somewhere but I don't think I am. Same happens when I try to load a new game. I know it worked fine without any FSAA or AF. This sucks I want to be able to use at least 4x FSAA and 16 AF. I have a 8800 video card. Its not like its a ancient video card. These same settings work just fine on Doom 3, Quake 4, and even F.E.A.R.

Did you install any patches after the creation of those save games? The patch is known to screw up old saves and make them useless. If not, I'm not sure of the status now, but I now the 8xxx series has been known to have some driver related performance issues with STALKER. I'll have to fire it up again and see, now that I got a new card.

No. I tried even loading a new game but I still go into the same area where all I see it like grayish on the bottom. It looks like I am up in the clouds flying.

You CANNOT run FSAA with anything but static lighting in Stalker. You can use the ingame pseudo AA, but not driver level AA. Deferred lighting means standard MS FSAA will not work.

Why not? Is this why I can't get any map to load on my game ?

Make sure you are running the latest drivers for everything, I am on 162.15 for my 8800. As PhatoseAlpha said- Stalker has no form of AA when dynamic lighting is enabled, its just a blur effect.

Like PhatoseAlpha said you cannot run AA with anything but static lighting. Its just the way the game engine works and how do people not know this by now?

Correction: you cannot run driver AA at all in Stalker. Even with the static path it has no effect on IQ.

The only AA that works is the in-game version and that only works with the static path.

OP, do you have patch .0003 ?

evidently AA cannot be forced in the CP ... i don't think there is any effect ... i doubt that is the reason your game is bugged ... reinstall it

And static looks like crap compared to dynamic so it's really not worth running it in that mode just for some AA.

well you havent been paying attention. forcing AA in the control panel causes the exact problem the OP is having. also he says "I know it worked fine without any FSAA or AF"right there in his post.

actually i have been paying attention ... i don't thank it is the reason ... but give me a couple of minutes and i'll load up a game on my GTS 640 OC and see if i can duplicate the OP's problem

and i DID have similar problems being 'off the map' in Stalker with my old X1950p/512 that a reinstall cured

EDIT: ... nope, tried it ... latest Forceware, fresh install of XP and stalker 1.0003 ... Forced 4xAA/16xAF ... loaded up a saved game ... and aside from an occasional 'hitch', it was fine ... didn't look very different [it looks awesome with all in-game settings maxed]

try reinstalling Stalker with patch 1.0003
