Anyone got any tips on how to survive the infrequent yet highly annoying radiation storms?

Ive been able to hide in buildings before and keep alive, but I am in an area now where this are no buildings. Can you hide close a cliff or something and stay alive?

Or possibly a mod that removes them?

You talking about the emissions in Clear Sky? In my experience it always tells you where to go, and you only have one option no matter what area you're in. You MUST go to that one area. I know this because one time I hid in a cellar instead of the semi-enclosed space it told me to hide, and I died from the emission anyway.

If you're talking about Shadow of Chernobyl then I can't help you. Haven't played much of that game.

This. Sometimes the game told me to run to a different map area for 'cover' from the emission. I only had to reload once or twice with an older save because I stalled for too long and couldn't make it in time.

There are no emmissions that I know of in Shadows of Chernobyl, unless you are using a mod.

Huh. Ya, I am playing Stalker, not Clear Sky. Maybe it is a mod. The sky does some weird red flashes, then everything starts shaking for a while and eventually overwhelming radiation comes and kills me.

I am using Oblivion Lost. I'll have to go see what that mod entails.

Edit: This is what I am talking about. Apparently its a feature built into Oblivion Lost. Its really annoying, this is the 2nd time I have had to reload and lose a good 20 minutes of gameplay because of this shit.

Anyone know a way to bypass it? I already tried sleeping through it, didn't work.

The easiest way to figure out where to hide from a blowout in OL is to follow the NPC. They all run someplace safe when a blowout starts. I believe they can be modded out - check the Oblivion Lost forums.

Or, if you can get enough high grade artifacts, you can ignore them totally.

Ha ha, ya I keep seeing that suggested around. Maybe its just in my game, but the enemy NPC's don't run for cover. My view starts to shake, making it impossible to aim, the whole while they are just sitting there shooting me.

I'll see if I can take it out. I've already backtracked 30 minutes and found a hiding place for now, though.

I loved the blowouts in Oblivion Lost. Added an appropriate sense of impending danger to every day. And I kept track of where I was most of the time, just in case. The only issue I had with them was the difficulties of surviving at the reactor, where, as far as I can tell, you can only make it through if you have crafted advanced artifacts. The crafting aspect of it left me cold, so I never completed the OL version, but other than that, it was loads more interesting and fun than vanilla.

Generally the safe zones were underground, or somewhere near populated areas. Again, watching the NPCs helps. Saving a lot does, too. I survived in some non safe zones, but spent a lot of health packs, etc to do it. The closer to the reactor, the nastier the blowouts.

The best way to survive blowouts is certainly to save often, play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as if you were playing an RPG, that's the first step. I myself save at least once every five minutes, it has become a reflex over time, it started in vanilla Shadow of Chernobyl, and it perpetuated throughout the mods I tried for it and then over to Clear Sky. The second best way to survive during those situations is to ensure you've got Anti-Rads and to look for neutral or friendly NPCs, there should normally be a certain period of screen-shaking and ground trembling before the actual radiations waves arrive, use that period of time (I think it's roughly thirty seconds or so) to run around and look for either NPCs or building which you can enter (and make sure they have a ceiling).

Hope it helps.

You shouldn't ever have to go that far to avoid a blowout. Which zone were you having trouble finding a safe spot in?

Red Forest.

Now I have gotten to the sarcophagus, and its nigh impossible. I swear to god the enemies keep re-spawning after I kill them. I think I have killed 13 of those invisible guys that slash at you.

This game is really frustrating. I've just been shooting the shit out of everything to kill them all off, saved, and now I always have 3 guys at my back to kill me every time I load.

I am just about to give it up. Great game, but its really pissing me off.

Edit: One last question. Does Clear Sky continue on from the story set up in Shadow of Chernobyl? Will I be alright just moving on to Clear Sky without finishing it?
