Ok so this game has sucked me in. Anyone know if you can take the armor off of people you've laid to waste? Seems odd to me that I can take their guns and bread, but I can't take their coat.

In any regard, my leather jacket just doesn't do it for me anymore!

In the underground right now headed to the Agropen research facility... and umm, who the hell is this guy at the end of the hall throwing sound waves or something at me and making me crap my pants?

It doesn't happen very often ... continue on to the Bar to buy some, or check back in the first town in the game, you can get a STALKER suit or a Merc suit in the attic of one of the houses right off the bat.

Forget that mutant, fear these!

seems to me that body armor would be pretty useless after being shot up

many of the guns you pick up are inferior to the new ones you buy ... find a merc suit in the attic of the house behind Wolf in the first map {jump across to the 2nd house ... and look good with your flashlight around the attic}

... and 'he' is a mutant mind controller ... toss a grenade - needs good 'timing' ... or hide around the corner near the first ladder ... 'glance' at him be 'pulled' but not "confused' ... when he comes toward you and then turns around again, shoot him in the back

Thanks. Little far now to turn around and head back to the starter camp, so I guess I'll head to the bar. Gotta change my underwear and kill this mutant mind controller guy first though.

Now that I remember, I don't recall seeing this guy until later in the game. He definitely wasn't at this interval of the game for me. You are talking about the guy who pulls your mind right?

well, he's in the tunnel under what appears to be the agropen research facility (I went up the ladder and it was swarming with military... maybe it's something else). All I can see of him is a dark shadow outline, looks like a guy standing at the end of the hall... almost looks like he throws a sound wave at me, which causes the screen to get shaky/blurry and me to get promptly killed after the third one or so.

That psychic mutant is probably the worst enemy ever in a game in terms of pure annoyance and strength. Almost crapped my pants from the sound and effect when the first one got the jump on me.

Update: Apparently the trick is to just switch to your knife and charge right at him... total pushover. Stabbed him in the face a couple times and then teabagged his corpse for good measure.

Finally got to the Bar and got some new armor. Yay for sexy new clothes.

Yup, or use your gun, but charging those guys is a good strategy.

I'm playing a New Game right now and haven't bought a suit yet. Just do some Missions for Duty and you'll get 2 or 3 good suits as a payment. Keep checking all the secret storage spots and you'll find some more.

Keep all your Vodka. Gather them all in one place, preferably around a campfire(I used the Rookie Village), grab them all, drink them, and enjoy the music.

hehe, it's 5-10 minutes of wobbly camera and shader effects. Not spectacular, but just something different to do. :D

I only had 8 bottles when I did it, I think I'll try 20 next. :D

 Ya, when I kept losing against him, I just kept trying to frag him. Then he came around the corner and he went melee, so he said hello to a clip from my AK:).

if you go to the stalker forums, there is a mod section, one of the mods they have come up with is one that when you collect a PDA and it tells you about a stash, this mod will five you the location.

For example...without the mod a message will read "the backpack near the village"

with the mod it will read: "Cordon 05:the backpack near the village"

One thing I have noticed is that when you kill someone and raid a stash and take everything, if someone else you kill mentions that same stash...the stash is refilled.

By the way, there are about 5-6 different times you will run into that mutant. as long as you stand behind a wall and peek out and take shots at him you can beat him.

I hated the blood suckers....you can hear them huffing a ways away, like a big dog chasing you but when they turn invisible you can only see their eyes coming at you.

I often find refilled stashes with different stuff and often in greater quantities than before. They are definitely worth checking out regularly.

The Blood Suckers also leave a blurr, kinda like a Predator from the movie(s). If you hang back far enough you can usually snipe them while they're visible. The worst time to engage them is when there's a Controller in the area. Makes it very difficult to see the Blood Suckers. So tracking down the Controller and offing him is the best strategy.

i get the entire 'outline' of the Blood Suckers ... they never entirely disappear

and yes, keep checking stashes ... just like in real life

hehe, well I was just trying to find a term for it. I do see the whole outline, but they appear like water, kinda.

[/i]diaphaneity[/i] ?

:D

translucent is the closest i can come to ... it only lacks "degree" of translucency ... that's why i stipulated "... to the point of 'nearly transparent' " ;)

EDIT: but then you could argue that it is really "transparent" ... it allows light to pass with only slight distortion of the image :p

from the wikipedia:
In optics, transparency is the property of allowing light to pass. Transparent materials can be seen through; that is, they allow clear images to pass.
pretty clear ... i guess ... transparent

Anyone know if there is a 'seamless levels' mod for this? It's annoying me that I have to wait for levels to load - why can't it anticipate my approach and use a bit of extra memory to cache the next area?
