Yup guys, patch 1.0004 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has finally been released (approximately four months in the making). It can be found at Fileplanet, Filefront and perhaps a couple of independent fan sites. Also for more information (and download links) just visit the official forums at GSC-Game.com. I just wanted to point at it.

The patch is only for the world wide version, not the US version.

When GSC announced Freeplay they said it would be in the 1.1 patch.

At least these guys release patches and try and support their game....Nothing like some publishers that actually kill developers on purpose so they can consume their IP....

I get a slight performance gain in my benchmarks.

The SP quest fixes sound sweet.

There is actually a way to fix that crash at least for the most part. And i believer it isnt just 8800 cards that have the problem. It has something to do with the 2 GB virtual memory barrior with 32 bit vista You hvae to change something with the bcdedit/change userva in the elevated command prompt. Dont just do that though, i diont think that is exactly what the command is. Here is a thread on the GSC forums with the steps. it is really quite easy and i found it to be affective with no negative side affects right now.
8800 fix via bcdedit
I hope that helps you.

Thank you for that, I have tried this a while back and it didn't work for me unfortunately.
If im not mistaken there is a fix that Microsoft has just released but not to the public. The only way to get it is to call them up and request it. The fix will be released to the general public when Service pack 1 is complete.

Im having the same issue with Oblivion and Supreme commander. Once i hit that 2 GB in virtual memory i crash. Im a sitting duck on most games once the fix comes.
