I'm happy about this, and I wish them the best. But I don't understand why they bothered announcing it this early.

I still have memories of waiting years for the first one to come out because it had been announced at a very early 2000 E3 expo (01 / 02'ish), a solid 6 or 7 years prior to release (it was released in 2007). It wasn't due to come out in 2007 originally of course, it suffered from multiple delays (and leaks, too). It was a very tough road for them to get that thing out. And it was absolutely painful to wait for it. This time the gap is lesser by comparison, but I still don't understand why even announcing it if they're probably not even sure they'll have the manpower, and of course the money to keep working on it for the coming three years; much less anticipating the absolute best without a single delay in between.

I suspect that there's going to be long periods of radio silence as well.

Anyway, I'm saying all this simply because it's the same (or mostly the same) team from GSC, I just hope that this time things will work out better for them.

I'm not sure how many of the original developers are left since GSC's reopening, when they shut down a few years ago most went to 4A to make the Metro series, and some went off to make Suvarium. Maybe the announcement is about getting some of those developers back, but I wonder who their publisher is going to be. GSC right now is backed by one owner and they self published Cossacks 3.

ok, three things:

1. i'm buying it. I KNOW it's gonna be broken when released, i hope Deep Silver doesn't do the QC on this one.
2. i really hope it's gonna NOT have the same maps and story as stalker 1, stalker 1 but 2, and stalker 1 but 3. New storyline pls.
3. hmm, no , just two things.

I don't get one thing where is it going to be located when everything was done in the 1st Stalker?

This has HL3 written all over it.
This makes absolutely no sense.

Not true. We only saw Strelok's story in the first games so the second game could easily encompass a different area of the Zone and tell a whole different story. Given how much they originally planned to be in the game, I could easily see a lot of what they wanted coming to fruition in a second installment. Factions that work properly, better and more diverse mutants, better weapon mods, etc.

To me, STALKER is The Zone. Half of the environments they planned for ShoC were cut before the release, so there is plenty of new areas to add, and an opportunity to really flesh out areas that did make it. Just think about the potential of what they could do with a modern engine creating Pripyat and the "Dead City," or the creepiness of the Red Forest.

I hope they really put focus / effort into NPC behaviors and combat AI.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Only to someone who does not know how a business works or is old enough to be my 5 year son who jumps for excitement when he sees Micky at Disney. They have been talking about this for years and never was "officially" announced. The development team had a hard time finding a source of funding for it. 3 years is extremely long time for development and no publisher in their right mind would budget for a video game for over 3 years.

Just simply saying - don't keep your hopes up.

3 years to develop a game with STALKER's scope seems entirely reasonable to me.

Totally doable, even if it's delayed a year it should be worth the wait.

Here's to getting eviscerated by anomalies and getting scared half to death by lion-roaring Snorks!!

ON SECOND NOTE: there isn't really much proof of legitimacy; just a web page and email address... the website certs don't really hold any value either, from what I can tell.

Well, the whole thing revolves around a few statements from Sergiy Grygorovych, owner of GSC, who made the initial statement on Facebook. He seems arrogant and insolent enough to make a good game out of the next STALKER. I hope he does. The series deserves it.

?? The lead developer took the ip with him. Thats why they couldn't complete. This seems to be from that developer.

oh good, that's at least something more credible. i hope it goes as planned, as I agree the series (and genre) need something amazing.

Would love to see a new series of STALKER games. The first three were some of the best ever, in my opinion. Only . . . Weren’t these from Russia? I wouldn’t want to be backing software from any Soviet bloc nation (except maybe Poland, they are pretty Western) in today’s environment.

Edit: Looked it up, it’s a Ukrainian developer. Not sure if I’d trust a Ukrainian developer to not have Russian malware either.

Hope it actually does release. There are a lot of games I'm looking forward to that won't be releasing any time soon. I actually wish E3(which is happening this week) would be more about games coming this year than showing reveal trailers for games that are 2 years out. Oh well...that doesn't make for a very interesting show I guess.

Werepossum,

Take that redacted to the politics or off the topic forums, you anti-Russian propaganda brainwashed zombie.

Buy a lottery ticket, because today
is your lucky day. Since the profanity
was in an older post and not reported,
you are spared an infraction. Next time it
won't matter.

eh, there's pretty good reason to be dubious about such things: potential malicious code embedded in software, depending on origin.

No reason at all. None whatsoever. Because if you have this sort of thinking then you might as well think that the whole world is against you and plotting to do something bad. and technically, you would be right, because there are always people probing for weaknesses in United States defense. But it's very important to always remember, that US is doing the exact same thing to the rest of the world. So it goes both ways.

You are right. I appologize for the bad language.
