It's as simple as it says it is. If you have it set to use ALC850, the S/PIDF works in conjunction with the Karajan audio (that extra little sound bracket that installs in the back next to the S/PIDF ports). If you have it set to NForce MCP, the NForce4's built-in audio drives the connector. If you have a digital speaker setup, and don't plan on using any other inputs/outputs like headphones, etc, and don't want to use the Karajan audio, just set it to NF4 MCP. Otherwise, just leave it set to ALC850 by default.

I was unable to make sense of this with the very limited manual I recieved with the motherboard. All I'm going to do with the audio is plug into the green port in the back with a cable that has two RCA jacks on the other end which will be connected to the AUX. input of a 100 watt per channel AMP that outputs to 2 speakers.

So if I understand you right the onboard audio is defaulted to the ALC850 if I do nothing. Is that correct?

Also I noticed updated drivers for (nForce Audio Driver) and (Realtek ALC AC97 Audio Driver) on the web.

Does this mean if I don't change the jumper I should update the drivers for the ALC AC97?

If you don't change the jumper, you can use the drivers off of the DFI CD or get those from the web.

Leave the jumper as-is, and download the AC'97 drivers or use the ones on the CD.
