Ok I have a couple questions. First off I bought the 2500 xp and the really huge thermalright or take???? copper heatsink a few months ago now for air cooling it is very nice i have my chip at a 210 fsb and have been as high as 217 without crashes and it doesnt go above 42C even while gaming. First question is is it safe to go that high of a fsb setting for the motherboard? And does anyone have any clue why when i upgraded my bios and it reset itself to defaults it does not want to run as a 2500xp anymore....my pc kept crashing put it back to 200fsb and its fine...lol? Also I think i could get alot more out of my chip if i could unlock the multi but not sure if its possible does anyone know?
One more question whenever i go into some heavy processing i can actually hear the rpm change on my fans but i upgraded my psu to a 450 is it possible that i need more? Also fyi i have the biostar m7ncd pro for my mobo and a 9600 pro....too poor for the 9800 and 512mb of pc3200 ddr.

Any help is appreciated...thanks in advance James A.K.A Demonicpresence

Yes, any fsb the motherboard will do is safe for the board, as long as you leave the chipset's voltage at or near stock. And it's not possible to unlock the multi on the new chips. AMD has "hard-locked" them, so you'll have to settle for an 11x multi. Now, when you are doing this heavy processing, and the fan speeds change, are they getting faster or slower? If they are getting faster, it's nothing to worry about. If they are getting slower, check your voltages while running the cpu at 100% load and report back. Oh, and welcome to the forums.:D

Now that u mention it they are getting faster :) still surprising for me since they are each on a fan controller.

Also do u have an answer for my other question as to why i got unstable when i tried to go back to 2500xp speeds.

One more thing...I hear peeps talk about crazy voltages only voltage adjust i had to do for my chip to do 210fsb was change it from 1.65 to 1.675. BTW it did 3200xp fsb without any voltage change it wasnt til i tried to go higher that i had to up voltage. One of my friends told me something happens called burn -in when u have something oc/ed and that maybe it is just used to the higher speeds, could this b true?

This seems to be a friendly forum I will be happy to help answer questions here when i have time. :)

Thanks

Okay, your rheobus (fan speed controller) obviously has a temperature sensor, and it's raising the fan speeds because the cpu is putting out more heat, just like it's supposed to do. As for your processor not wanting to run at 11x166, that sounds to me like maybe your bios is partially corrupt. Try downloading and reinstalling it again, if it bothers you. Burn-in is what some people think you need to do to a chip before you overclock it, i.e.-- run it at stock speed and stock voltage for awhile. No processor ever gets used to be overclocked, therefore not wanting to run at stock speeds. Tell your friend that it wasn't a bad guess though!:D
