S&M is brilliant. But the all-time greatest? That would be Ten

Pearl Jam's? really?

It was sometime back in 1996. I was a geeky 11-year-old kid who didn't know anything about music - particularly Rock. We didn't even have cable TV then (I grew up in Saudi Arabia). I happened to catch 'Jeremy' on MTV late at night at a friend's place. I saved whatever money I had and had a local store special-order the CD (the record stores sucked in that town back in those days).

That album is the reason I started listening to Rock Music. And it's an awesome album. 🙂

S&M is overrated. James lost his voice when touring for TBA (and peaked long before that), the orchestration only adds to a few songs like The Call of Ktulu and For Whom the Bells Toll, and the two bonus songs are nothing special.

Metallica's Ride the Lightning, Iron Maiden's Killers, Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny, and Exodus' Fabulous Disaster make up my top four.

We could have classes

Rock and Roll
Rock
Metal
Heavy Metal
Hair Metal........................

If you spilt up heavy metal and hair metal you've got to include the categories within those as well. Thrash metal, post-thrash metal, (melodic) death metal, doom metal, black metal, progressive metal, power metal, and so on.

Of course, none of that really matters since NWOBHM > all.

No popular band is ever the best... Specially American... Most european bands >>>> in both rock and metal, its just that no one knows them over there

Fortunately I do 😀

Oh btw, if you want to listen to some truly kickass Orchestral Metal check out:

Rage - Speak of the Dead

It eats S&M for breakfast and then some 😀

Shame they dont have a sample in their site 🙁

Metal is just loud noise for the most part. No thanks.

Have you listened to much Metallica? A lot of their stuff is pretty mellow.

Yeah, the first few albums are pretty much straight "thrash" metal, but there are several calmer songs in the latter ones, including my favorite Metallica song (Fade to Black). Also, there IS a message in the songs as much as any other band has, if the way its presented isn't your thing than fine, but there is definitely allot more than just loud noise.

I would have to mention these as top rock albums:

Led Zepplin IV
Apettite for Destruction
Master of Puppets
Dark Side of the Moon

There are many other worthy of praise, those are just the best from the bands I like.

Calmer /= Calm 😉

Something tells me that anything heavier than Hero of the Day would be too much for Jules.

To me, a great album is one with more than one POPULAR song. If a band puts an album out, and it can be played almost entirely, then that is a TOP Album.

Joshua Tree
Most early Metallica Albums
Appetite For Destruction
A few Iron Maiden Albums
The last Nickelback album (Yes, I said Nickelback)
Last Amon Amarth Album is the best, very heavy metal album I've ever heard
