WARNING " Attribute seek error rate changes from 100 to 200"

This is a popup warning message from the hard drive monitor SMART.

What does this mean?

It means that you need to backup your data immediately and get an RMA on that drive. SMART has never been wrong before in my experience. That drive is about to experience imminent disaster.

I have gotten that same message pop up once in a while when using activesmart. Its been like that for almost 2 years and the drive is still in use everyday for about 9-10 hours and works perfectly. I wouldnt worry about it. What smart program are you using and what harddrive?

Sorry to ask, but what is SMART? I've never seen it before, apart from some message on my very old P75 when it booted up?

Probably nothing, and for this particular attribute, a higher value is usually better.

Self-Monitoring Analysis Reporting Technology

Basically, the hard drive is trying to tell you that it is in bad shape and is going to die soon.

I got SMART warnings once, the drive failed 2 days later. I did backup my data though. Yay me.

You take your own risk by not following up on that warning.
