Are you trying to say that there isn't a single IPS screen for a laptop? I find that hard to believe. Is there a database of what type of LCD screen it is on a given model laptop?

I think some of the Lenovo models are supposed to have IPS screens. Don't know which ones though.
I would be shocked if there were any laptops using IPS. IPS is an absolute power hog, it's 2 transistors and the extra-strong backlight needed to get through the denser panel. It would be a very poor choice for a laptop, even for a DTR.

Funny you say that because my thinkpad gets like 6 hours on the 6 cell battery. When playing Rise of nations, I had 70% battery left on the 6 cell after playing for about 45minutes.

I was just thinking the same exact thing. I got a P793, 17" 1600x1200 and I want that in LCD.

or if it's going to be a 20-22" screen, then I want 2048x1536.

I think it's a manufacturing issue. that would be too hard to do for a normal price. just ain't going to happen in the near future.

What do you mean a manufacturing issue. IBM has 15" laptops with 1600X1200 screens (you have to specially ask for the 1600X1200 one) so I don't see how manufacturing is an issue. It obviously can be made, it's just that they simply don't care about my needs and the needs of others. If this monitor was properly marketed and had everything an enthusiast could ask for, then I don't see how it could not be a winner.

well it looks like you knew what I meant!

that's right, now that you mention it, I had one of those, a Dell 8200 w/ 15" UXGA screen. and yep, the LCD in those laptops were in fact made by IBM.

hhmm.... do you suppose, there are any "white box" LCD kits where you can stick a laptop screen in it? that would be a solution to the problem.

ok heres the thing. people who buy laptops generally are willing to pay a premium for those higher resolutions. thats why theres the option to get a higher resolution screen.

the 17-19in standalone lcd monitors are made for mass market. they make them cheap because the majority doesnt want to spend so much. its the bottom of the barrel so to speak. its all about money, and i'm afraid theres probably not too many wanting to buy a 17inch lcd with 1600x1200 resolution, nor pay a high premium on it. a company would rather sell 10,000 $199 monitors.

also, you cant just buy some laptop lcd screen off ebay and put it in a plastic enclosure you find. i've looked into that once upon a time, but its more trouble than its worth, if not impossible. basically the lcd screen has this little connector that is specifically made for whichever laptop they are built with.
