Since it looks like the outage will last at least a couple more days I think some wu spamming may be in order 🙂 If anybody needs work units everybody interested could zip up a few and send a mass mailing to anybody requesting them. I don't need any but I certainly have some for the spamming...

If you need work units just post here and I'm sure they'll pour in, just lets not go overboard 😀

I could use some, I can't get SetiQ to work. Not able to make any connections at all, connect buttons even grayed out.
Thanks.
Paul

I need to check, but i think i got 15-20 cached at work i can zip out...takers?

i can zip up the work_unit.sah files and email to whoever needs a few; wish i had more, but i used to feel guilty about hoarding 50 units per machine...not any more...

First some first serve! PM me with an email and how many ya need. I'll see if i can scare up some more....

G.

edit:
6 to WayneS
8 to Def
3 to smp
15 to various coworkers about the office
more to give! my queues will run dry at 6pm tomorrow; I'll spread them around, just want to minimize overall Seti downtime!

EDIT: no more to give; im dry now, crunching OGR...

I've still got about 150 WU's cached in my queue here at work. Sounds like a lot but my work fleet produces 70-80 per day. 🙂 Still, if anyone out there needs a few WU's let me know and I'll send you a few in Email. Send requests to Robor@work

Sorry for the newbie question, but I was emailed some WUs, (THANKS Robor!) and need to know how I should save/copy the WUs in order to have them processed by the SETI CLI app.
Thanks!

OldGeezer - just make sure whatever the WU was named when it was sent to you, is changed to work_unit.sah. Then copy that into the folder with the CLI, and let it roll. Also make sure your user_info.sah file is in there as well.

I could use a few...(6-7 would last me until they hopefully get the network up)

My main ship is dead in the water 🙁 I too felt like I was hoarding WU's with 3-4's production lined up all the time, now I could kick myself for changing it to just 3 WU's. 🙁

email is gte774u@prism.gatech.edu

somehow i figured i wouldn't run out of work units if i had the queue on my p2 400 set to 5... well, i did. rc5 here i come!

I could use some.. I run the screen saver client though.. how could I make em work if someone sends me some.. if someone could email some to me (about six I guess) that would be great.. but my email listed here is hotmail and they only take a meg.. so just a couple I guess.. oh, and some instructions on how to make em work too.. thanks..

heh. im continually surprised how much not faster my athlon@1G does WU's compared to an old p2-266@400...

anyhow, SMP, i cant see your profile, so i dont have your email....ill zip you off 3 (4 of my WU's total at 1.058M) if you get me your email.

beloved patriot, you aren't running the GUI with the graphics showing are you?

BTW, I say Orange Kid should get some of the extra WU's since so many people are currently going through his SETIQ server. 🙂

beloved patriot, what kind of times are you getting on that Athlon? I'm guessing, but it should be in the range of 6-7 hours, and the PII should be at about 11.5-12 hours..

I got some WUs from Ken this morning. I did as he wrote about getting them to work. I cannot get them to work in CLI but they will work in GUI Seti. He said use a command line, I don't know how to use command switches. When I click on CLI Icon it starts and thats it no time for any input, Can someone explain how to do this.
Thanks
Paul

Sorry, 1 more question..
The client doesn't want to work on the new unit because it keeps trying to send the results of the previous one. Should I rename the results file and then when we get connection back (or I get SetiQ to work whichever comes first) change each results file back to the standard name and let it send it?

Thanks..🙂

Oldgeezer, I'd save the entire SETI folder that has the completed WU in it. Then when SETI comes back online just run the client in the folder so it'll send back the WU. Before the client DLs any new WU's, just stop it and delete the folder. That's probably the easiest and safest way to do it that I know of.

graphics? oh, h3ll no....SetiDriver and cli all da way, baby!

really, there has got to be an easy way to cache WU's centrally, for the team. I know there is SetiQ, but from reading the other thread, it sounds like a pain to manage, allocating and then populating queues for individual users/logins...

Anyone know enough about the S@H internals that could enlighen me as to how the clients and servers talk to each other? I'd like to write a server that will dole out WU's to all that request, but doesnt accept results...let the users deal with that once the main servers come back up. I think, what, 30gigs of WU's woulda seen us thru ok 😉

Someone point me in the right direction?

G.

Just an update... I've gotta pull myself out of service for any extra WU's. Both my work and home queues will be empty by early to mid-day tomorrow. 🙁

Can't help but wonder why the entire operation is based out of one location. 😕

Rob

Dazmite, I'm guessing you've never used an MS-DOS Prompt?

Don't worry about it. If the WUs work in the GUI, it's probably not worth the trouble to you to work on the CLi at the moment. Just be sure to save them and send them when you can (hopefully late tomorrow.)

Thanks for running my WUs! 🙂

beloved patriot, SETIQ isn't as hard to manage as you think it is...the reason it's taking a lot of work now is because new users are trying to use Orange Kid's SETIQ server when the main SETI server is dead.

Normally AFAIK SETIQ doesn't need any user intervention, and it will accept new users easily.

hmm. cool, ill have to look into it some more.

I had asked the SetiQ guy, Ken, and said he had no plans for a unix port of any type....which is what i am mostly interested in....

my search continues!

G.

beloved patriot, I'm not sure if you know this, but UNIX SETI clients can still connect to a Windows SETIQ. SETIQ has to run in Windows, but it will accept connections from any client.
