I wonder why SETI doesn't go to a keyserver>proxy system (like Dnet) to minimize these troubles.

The work units are about 350K, and IIRC they are currently doing 500,000+ wu's/day. That's a lot of bandwidth. That and the minimun staffing levels of the project, nobody to do the coding?

I think that last part is the real reason. The poor SETI guys are so swamped trying to keep up with their overwhelming popularity, they haven't had time to set up any sort of proxy system... If they ever get around to, though, the whole project will probably get a lot more stable!
