I'm slowly coming back to life. I now have two PIII-1.0 M laptops crunching, my (ex)father-in-law's Celeron 500 (and looks like he's buying a new Dell P4 2.0GHz very soon) and my dad's PIII 500 crunching, too. My mini-fleet should be up by Sunday night so that will toss a dual Athlon 1800, a PIII 500, an Athlon 900 and something else (can't remember what it is now 😕 ) back into the fray.

My home rigs are isolated from the net atm ,a mbrd upgrade in my main rig has resulted in Win2k refusing to boot with a BSOD 'inaccessable boot device':| ,bloody Win2k is a POS:|.Win98SE took the upgrade more or less ok but I cant get the cable modem to work with it yet (ongoing problem).I know NTL have a fix for this & I need to access their site via dialup to get it.
This still doesn't solve my Win2k problem though which is my main OS ,gonna try a couple of things over the weekend (plug the old mbrd back in & use sys prep,use Part Magic to fix a possible partition problem).
Oh yeah ,my home Q has enough WUs to keep me going past the weekend🙂

1 piece of good news is that I have assimilated another PC here at work ,a PIII 500 which is on 24/7🙂 ,only trouble is it only has 64Mb RAM!

Assim1 - Can you hit F8 and get the boot menu? Perhaps it will start up in safe mode so you can install the appropriate chipset drivers.
 
Maybe an "fdisk /mbr" might fix that inaccessable boot device error for Mark. Hope you're back up soon!

An average day but 3 new teammates is nice. Still got our butts kicked by the teams around us.

Assim, Win2K doesn't like MB changes. Had the same thing happen to me when I switched MBs. I ended up having to run repair and sort of re-install Win2K. Dorry to say, but the best thing is a clean install of Win2K.

Not bad but we still need to ramp up production a bit more. I dont think it is a reasonable goal to not let OCUK pass us but our other local competitors are a do-able challenge.

just wanted you to know i jumped in with both feet.
running on my main machine (2100xp) and my 2 file servers (p3 500 and p3 400)
servers are slow - but will be crunching 24/7 .
hopefully my little bit will help.

I tried to do that but I have no 'rescue disks'😱
Going to plug in the old mbrd & see if I can prepare it with new drivers
 
Yep thats exactly the problem I had ,I followed those instructions but it didn't work ,it turned out I had 2 problems.The 15 head Maxtor HDD I have gets Win2kSP1 in knots(re atapi.sys) ,so not even setup works!

Putting the old mbrd back in, resetting the IDE drivers back to default & rebooting fixed it🙂.And because my install is SP3 no HDD problem either!
