I was testing out some memory settings and after setting a timing too low, I had to reboot and reset everything in the bios.

Now I cannot change the cpu clock mult at all.
All of a sudden my 1800x is locked at 36x nomatter what I set the mult to.
I cleared the cmos and even reflashed the bios, this changed nothing back to the way it was ... after an hour or two, same result.

Possible hardware damage ?
 
This is extremely odd.
Voltage settings weren't working either.
I downgraded back to the F2 bios from the F3 bios and everything works, cept I can't get the 2666 mem speed with F2.
So I upgraded back to F3 and clock mult and voltage don't work.

I guess this motherboard is just worthless and needs smashed
 
I'd send a message to Gigabyte support, see if they can advise and get a new BIOS update out.

Yeah, this is just wrong.
Upgraded back to F3 and all the problems come back.
It was working with F3 several hours ago, I just don't understand how this could happen.
There would have to be some kinda hidden settings that survive clr_cmos and bios updates ...
 
The only thing I could recommend would be to reset to factory defaults in the BIOS, then reflash the F3 BIOS, and try again. Though i'm guessing you've already done that.
 
From your previous comments in the Ryzen OC thread, it's pretty clear that you have no clue what you are doing so how about you post some BIOS screenshots.

Having used 5 different Ryzen boards.... all of them have their quirks (like ASRock Taichi and changing the BCLK resetting your OC settings...)

Gigabyte UEFIs have been the most frustrating for me, so there's that. Lots of stuff that's labeled poorly and I swear their UEFI looks like it's from 1999.
 
I literally had to remove the cmos battery before it would reset everything and allow me to change the clock mult.

I got some sleep and came back to this thread.
Crumpet and DrMrLordX got me thinking. That's really why I post online, because bouncing ideas off each other, and sharing things tried helps everyone.

It just seems odd that a chip with a 4GHz turbo can't hold 4GHz locked with good aftermarket cooling and a slight voltage bump.

That's turbo with 2 cores only and the default V go quite high in such a scenario.

"On the high-end models the actual (effective) voltage for the base frequency (e.g. 3.6GHz on 1800X SKU) can be anything between 1.200 - 1.300V. Meanwhile the actual (effective) voltage for the highest single core boosted PState (XFR, e.g. 4.1GHz) can be as high as 1.47500V."

The 1.39 is your base clock voltage.
When it runs above the base clock or at turbo it goes up (that 1.55v is likely really happening).
IE: if I set ~1.3v it'll run at 1.416v even with turbo disabled and the freq locked at 4GHz

I'm currently using a +0.06v offest, which results in 1.4v at 4GHz
If I manually set 1.4v, it considers it a 0.175v offset

Why I don't recommend Gigabyte boards currently. Excellent hardware build but the software sucks so so badly, especially the UEFI. BIOS updates are also a big if. You could get one last BIOS update in beta and that is it, no more updates - had that on a Z87 board.
 
none of those three posts indicates that the OP "has no clue what he is doing honestly " 🙂

although the last post was factually incorrect, it does not imply anything other than being confused about a thing that i am sure most average joe is confused with 🙂

Glad to be of some help, even if I didn't think of the battery. That was one of the methods people were using to bring back "dead" C6H and K5 boards weeks ago. They'd pull the CPU or the battery (or both) and leave it powered down for 30 minutes or longer. Sometimes it would bring them back, especially the C6H boards caught in reboot loops (pre-brick).
