5600 for $130 or 5700X for $200.......
That's going to come down to if the buyer can stretch that far. If they can, 5700x is the easy pick. It will ensure the headroom for console targets, the extra API overhead, decompression, ray tracing, etc.

Otherwise that $70 means a higher tier of GPU, which is the better place to spend the money overall.

How does the Ryzen 5500 compare with the 5600? I mean in terms of both stock and typical OC performance based on silicon lottery and stepping/revision? Right now the 5600 seems to be a sweet deal, but I think sometimes the 5500 is cheaper.

The 5500 doesn't compare at all to the 5600. You either want the 5600 or the 5700x. There is no silicon lottery here. They all perform the same. 4700mhz is max stable all core. 5600 is the same as the 5600x but on a new stepping.

5500 has the cut down 16MB L3 cache and PCIe 3.0. It should be a $100 or less now to even be considered.

Ah ok, i did not know that the 5500 had those limitations. Lack of PCIe 4 and the cut down cache is definitely a detail to look out for and avoid.
