Better cooler in box and 400MHz of base clock before OC is probably worth $20 over the plain 1700. Makes the 1800X a sillier proposition than it already is, though.

For some reason I thought the 1700x doesn't come with a cooler? Am I crazy?

Any source for them still honoring the motherboard bundle? I might be provoked into heading over to MC for the Asus mATX board and 1700x if they'll honor the $30 off and it comes with a decent cooler. I've been on the fence since I just bought a 6700k a year ago ...

Fry's is also running a sale on the 1700X for $389. Not nearly as impressive. :/

Is the 1700X the middle child that few people want? :D

Pretty much... 1700 comes with a cooler and if you get a decent OC you have > 90% of the Perf of a 1800X. The 1800X is only for those that don't want to OC or want the best possible chance to get a high OC.

It might have something to do with the sole customer review of two stars. I fear that Vega performance will be very similar to Ryzen and turn out to be a huge disappointment.
