It might be okay if the combat didn't consist entirely of QTEs.
Those were just interactive cinematic events....
and the "qte"s don't seem any more different than the "qte"s in assassins creed or uncharted. the entire combat isn't consisted of it, it's just certain moments.
Yes, also known as a QTE (quick time event).
I haven't played those games but a QTE was popping up for every single enemy they killed. I understand it was just a pre-recorded demo and the game may look very different on release, but from what they showed it sure looks like QTEs make up about half of the combat.
Very cool setting/theme though.
What was happening was similar to what happens in God of War. When an enemy gets low enough health, you can hit a button to perform a "killing move" that is cinematic. The thing is, I am pretty sure you can skip these altogether and just opt for a normal hack and slash kill.
well usually in god of war and uncharted too not sure bout assassins creed cause been years since i played it) if you don't press the button the enemy lives. and the next time you go to do a normal attack they will die, with the exception of a boss or sub-boss.
Graphics aside, I really didn't see anything from the trailer that would make me want to play it. Maybe I'm old and jaded but looks very generic to me.
I thought the setting looked fine but to me the QTEs seemed excessive. I can understand using them as a way of doing something cool outside of normal game mechanics (boss fight or special event) but when each enemy you kill basically stops the action so you can play a quick game of Parappa the Rapper it's a little too much imo...
Heh... So many games nowadays are more like interactive movies
I agree the QTE stuff is getting out of hand, you barely get to play anymore
Who came up with this stuff anyway? Like, what game started it?
The problem is its not even good... If Im watching a cutscene, Id rather watch it without worrying whether something will pop up telling me to press a button, and the whole thing isnt even fun

It was either this game or God of War that brought QTE to the mainstream:

Hands-on -- it's QTE, rails, and was originally a Kinect game.

Ugh. QTE. Fucking QTE.
Unless it's SOLELY for kills, sparingly, or less than 5-10% of the gameplay/combat, it can die in a grease fire.
I mean, seriously, it's 2013. This shit is essentially what Sewer Shark on the Sega CD was.
"Quick! Hit left!"
--"Good, you hit left in time! Now hit right!"
"Oh, you didn't hit Right in time, time for a cinematic of you blowing up"
That was what, 1994? That's essentially what QTE devolves to: Give up freedom, give up gameplay, give up playing the game, to have something that "looks cool".
I just fail to see how anyone who has been playing games for more than 5 years can be impressed by this stuff. I get the cinematic immersion factor in a VERY few instances when it fits, but other than that, it needs to go away and go away soon.
