I don't get the repetitive arguments for games. Are there games that don't have you doing the same things over and over? I mean, if that was the case, it wouldn't be a game in that genre.

Most games, by nature, involve some some amount of repetition. But, as a game designer, you need to make sure that regardless of what kind of activity the player is repeating, it needs to remain interesting and/or satisfying throughout the duration of the game.

The problem with Ryse AFAIK is that the actions you're repeating aren't any fun to begin with.

That seems to be par for the course for Crytek games. They look great, but just aren't fun to play. Perhaps, it is best they failed as a company. Maybe, they will sell their engine and get picked up by whoever buys it to just develop the engine.

I had some Steam credit and decided to buy this. I like it so far. Most gorgeous game I've ever seen, by far. To me the combat isn't that different from the Batman games. Click a couple of attack buttons in the right sequence with the right timing, block occasionally, do the right sequence of QTEs to get bonuses on a finishing move. Nothing amazing, but ok.

Edit: Oh, the game makes my system (i5-750, Radeon 6950) cry, but the game runs very well and is very smooth and playable for me even at 20-30 fps.

Just finished it. It plays just as I thought, it looks even better. Did a lot of sightseeing between fights.

Oh, what could have been...

I'll play it again now, deeper impressions later on.

Crytek continues the trend of spelling game titles with a Y. Eagerly awaiting the release of Fynal Fantasy and Alien: Ysolation. I hear Half Lyfe 3 uses the Crytek engine.

This game runs insanely well on my throttling reference R9 290. I'm seriously pleased and impressed.

Yep it does run well. Maxed out at 4k my single 290x can handle it. Beat it last night.

from waht i hear the guy who made Cryengine is now working on ID's engine

Chief programming designer. I don't believe he was one of the original 5. But he was onboard soon after Far Cry was released so he's seen CryEngine through many changes and upgrades.

Good hire for ID.

Okay, finally, I think I can have a decent comparison of how powerful the XBone is! So running Ryse on my i5-2400 w/ 8GB RAM on a GTX 480 (Stock everything) I'm getting about 15-20 FPS on medium texture res, 1080p. Granted that the Xbox is running only at 900p, I'm guessing if I ran it @ 900p, it'll run about the same. Or comparable... I'm guess maybe the i5 is a little faster.. but I'd say it's about that...

The game runs quite a lot better on AMD GPUs at the moment. I've been told (by a writer for PCGH.de) that Nvidia is aware of performance issues, and is working on a driver. If I were you I'd wait for this driver update before playing the game. Personally I think it's a little ridiculous that the first Nvidia card to get playable performance in this game at 1080p is a freaking 760.

Your GPU should be much faster than the Bone under normal circumstances, I think.
