Mar 30, 2012 - Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf's name has been bandied about for years as one of the greatest first-round draft busts in the history of the league. The former Washington St. Cougars star signed a huge contract before flaming out spectacularly. Following his pro career, Leaf ran into personal issues and ran afoul of the law in 2009 on burglary charges and was placed on 10 years probation.

Kimball Bennion of Great Falls Tribune, by way of Brian Floyd at CougCenter, reports that Leaf was arrested in Great Falls on Friday. Here are the details of the arrest available at this time:

Ex-NFL quarterback and Great Falls native Ryan Leaf was arrested on burglary, theft and drug charges, according to officials at the Cascade County Detention Center.

Leaf was arrested at about 1 p.m. He is charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

This second arrest could be very bad news indeed for Leaf. We will provide more details as they become available.

It's so hard to believe how far he has fallen. I know he did it all to himself, but I truly feel for the guy.

He didn't necessarily do it all to himself. He got hyped and hyped and hyped by the Media and was pretty much set up to fail. Also I doubt his "huge contract" would be much compared to players contracts today, but I guess it wasn't all that long ago. I would be curious to know.

Even Andrew Luck might not work out in the NFL, people give these guys way too much hype. I think RGIII will be a bust, people seem to forget he played at Baylor against bad teams. I hope he does well though.

His signing bonus was 11 mil.

I think he got addicted to pain meds, that's probably what's going with this latest problem.

Even back in 1991 dudes with contracts still got busted not thinking it all out.

Look at all the music/movie stars that ended up dead still trying to bust that nut they already had.
