Ryan fires pastor because he prayed for tax cuts that are fair to all Americans?

After "Ryan fires priest" I think the why becomes irrelevant if it isn't something criminal.

IF I recall they were all over him for praying that the poor would be ok with whatever plan passed.

Wow, my first thought when I heard about this, unfortunately, was whether someone made #metoo allegations about the chaplain, or something about young boys in his past came back to haunt him. That I would understand.

Praying for tax cuts that are fair to all Americans not ok?? That's fucked up, but makes sense for Ryan.

Are any of you really surprised by the atrociousness of this administration and its minions?

I love the argument raised in defense-he wasn't fired because of the "tax" prayer, he was sacked because he invited a Muslim to give an opening prayer to the House and that offended the more evangelical GOP members.

War on Christianity!
Well, at least Catholics. Who knew that rural protestants harbored such things. (Know quite well as one of my great aunts was ostracized by my oh so Christian Lutheran relatives for marrying a Catholic).

Well, it's not like it's a surprise. GOP has always strived for a fascist dictatorship, where 'freedom of speech' and 'freedom of religion' only applies to those who share their ideas and religion.

This makes my skin crawl a bit as what I'm about to say is a potentially valid defence of the firing, but here goes.

Perhaps the chaplain danced a little too close to the line that shouldn't be crossed by a member of the clergy especially in Congress by expressing what could definitely be seen a political opinion?

I guess the antidote to the feeling of my skin crawling is the laughable idea that the Christians are generally staying out of politics combined with the idea that the Republicans agree that religion and politics should be kept seperate.

I think this is a fair summary. While I don’t like what appears to be this firing I can see the point.
I’ll say at least there is some bipartisan push back.
I can only imagine the shit storm if it was a Democrat who fired the Chaplain

I think the chaplain did a good job of expressing a morally acceptable view of how our government should ensure the well being of all Americans.

If they will attack the Pope for the same expressions of support for the least among us what hope does the house chaplain have?

The chaplain gets fired yet preaching fundamentalist politics from the pulpit is rampant in our churches and benefit the Repubs in so many ways.

Gotta hand it to the Repubs, they sure have honed hypocrisy to a fine art.

Yet conveniently and situationally abstract.
