RX480-A (v1.0) OC issues

i have a socket 939 ecs rx480-a (v1.0) motherboard with the latest possible bios update (1.1f). however, i have a 2.2ghz athlon 64 x2 4400+ (socket 939 of course) and the cpu clock by default in bios is at 200mhz. does that have anything to do with overclocking? i've seen this before on my old tul motherboard and that wasn't an overclocking feature. also, i have two (2) 512mb corsair valueselect dual channel ddr dimms that run at 2.5v, but again, by default, it's set to 2.6v in the bios. the closest to it, without going over is 2.55v. should i change it to this just to be safe? if the 200mhz thing is not for overclocking, is there a quick and easy way to overclock by downloading a program that i can use to overclock while utilizing the system? thanks!

btw, sounds like a stupid question 200mhz verses 2000mhz or 2200mhz sounds a bit off. i'm probably awsering my own question. meh. i need to study up some more... :'(

oh, and btw again... whenever i adjust the cpu clock to anything more than 200mhz, say 220mhz for example, the system displays "warning!!! now system is in safe mode. please re-setting cpu frequency in cmos setup" every single time. i hope someone knows what's up. thanks for any help and input you can give!

That board isn't designed for overclocking. I would leave the voltage settings at default, and try to tighten up the memory timings.

aww, bummer about the oc. is there a program i can use to change the voltage on my memory? it's supposed to be 2.5v and the closeest to it in bios is 2.55v or 2.6v next value up is 2.8b which is too high for comfort...

The default or lowest setting should work fine. My old asrock board is the same- higher memory voltage than 2.5.

oh, and one more thing... i have the motherboard i mentioned above... the rx480-a (v1.0) with an athlon 64 x2 4400+ 2.2 ghz processor and 1gb of corsair valueselect ddr400 pc3200 ram with vista installed, yet my cpu usage for both cores always seem to be between 25-35% when i'm doing normal tasks like browsing the web and listening to music. any suggestions? my gateway laptop with an intel core 2 duo 1.66ghz and 2gb of ddr2 ram doesn't have this problem...

...i'm thinking it's because of the lower quality ram and that it's not ddr2? should i stick to xp for better performance?

Na. You should be glad your cpu usage is so low. Just be sure both cores are detected by vista. You're also lucky if all your software and games work with vista. I'm waiting for the first service pack before I'll get it. Xp is faster, but vista offers somewhat better security.
