RX Vega bundle/pack "discounts"

I had wanted to get a new computer for a while and since it was for media creation, the extra cores that AMD offers would be helpful. I saw the savings advertised for the release of the new Vega card and decided to use that to save some money.

Turns out that there are no real saving. I ordered through newegg and their Samsung monitor pricing was simply marked up so the $200 "pack discount" just reduces the price to what you can buy the monitor for from other vendors. The motherboard "pack" reduction of $100 probably does save some money.

I called newegg to either price match or cancel. They would not price match. The way their system works, the monitor and motherboard discounts were grouped into a $300 combo discount and if you return the monitor you lose the entire $300, not the $200 for the monitor.

This "pack" discount AMD was advertising is certainly not a reduction in price for the monitor compared to market prices and is questionable for the motherboards themselves. Typical fake discount you see all too often where they promote a savings where there actually is not a savings.

Funny enough, I was a WMC when I first came here ages ago and I am here reporting yet another illusionary monitor price savings. 😛

Thats just sad, so ontop of the horrible price/perf and more so perf/watt we now have fake discounts. Yeah this is going to end well for AMD.

That is purely up to the vendor I thought?

If they aren't doing price matches either, then... useless. I would have canceled as well.

between a bad marketing tactic with useless "packs", delays and price inflation due to shortage AMD really botched the launch.

couple that with the mining fiasco and you get the worst case scenario for those looking for a GPU upgrade from AMD.

I wouldn't buy crap from newegg. they did this crap with fury x 2 years ago as well. Only way you could buy one was to buy a bundle you didn't need. I had the xfx card that was "on sale" with game bundle in my cart yesterday at 9:01 EDT yesterday. Sale 2 days only they say. by 9:03 tried to complete the sale and they yanked it from my cart as out of stock. They clearly are not out of stock since they are offering that same card right not if you buy a bundle with various combinations of motherboards, cpus, and monitor for $1000+ to $2000+. Hell with Newegg. They are ripoff artists anymore.

In theory, if you anted the games offered and they were worth full price, there is some value there. I think you might save a little on the motherboards. They are the most expensive ones with all sorts of unneeded bling, but some people want them.

The monitor there is no value unless you wanted one anyways and no savings but you get the card anyways is worth it.

Newegg was ridiculous to work with. All they had to do was adjust the bundle discount for the monitor return, instead they got the entire order canceled and really annoyed a customer that has been around before they were "new"egg. Plus earned a letter to the California Attorney General about falsely advertising reduced pricing.

I posted this just to warn others to triple check before committing to these new "packs" that AMD is promoting.

Yeah, they are pretty bad nowadays.

Back when the PS4 and XBox1 launched, they forced you to buy it with a 55" crappy Chinese TV.

Until recently I never knew the founder sold the controlling interest to a Chinese company in 2016. That explains all the knock-off "First From Asia" crap. I only order from them if there is no other option. I gladly pay a few extra bucks to buy it elsewhere.

You've never run into the auto-gouger before at Newegg?

Edit: I don't know why AMD just doesn't sell the 56 for $499 and 64 for $599 straight and just throw in the games.

According to PCPer, AMD can't actually demand the prices be what they want them to be (MSRP), they can just strongly hint that the prices shouldn't be higher.

It is basically out of their hands, so it is Amazon/Newegg and the rest that sets the final price.

This was talked about a LOT on neogaf and reddit with MANY examples posted to warn off people. I would have posted more examples of how terrible this bundle was, but given how emotionally invested some people are in this launch, they'll see trolling in everything.

Ask on reddit for a better deal for anyone interested in a bundle. I'm sure someone will spec you something with the same performance for less.

In my years of business expertise, if you're in AMD's position and the final sellers won't listen to you, you're in a terrible spot.

Unfortunately they are all in it together. We went to NCIX few years ago to buy a monitor. They had a policy where you needed at least 3 dead pixels to qualify for "regular" return policy. Otherwise they wouldn't care. Unless you paid another $70 or so for zero pixel warranty.

Turns out that there are no real saving. I ordered through newegg and their Samsung monitor pricing was simply marked up so the $200 "pack discount" just reduces the price to what you can buy the monitor for from other vendors.

That's actually a common practice nowadays. Everything you buy can fall into the category.

They treat customers like they treat a product. No loyalties. No morals. Of course they are all in it for the money, but at least care a little bit?

Newegg lost me as a customer and I have been buying there forever and ever (pretty much from their day 1 and before they came out of bankruptcy).

It is not so much the pricing, AMD is to blame there, it is for the complete inflexibility and unwillingingness to do anything relevant for a long-term and previously loyal customer.

I will now spec out a media creation machine and find another vendor.

Newegg is the worst. They gouge whenever they can. IMO AMD should switch to MAP pricing and enforce that price. Violators like Newegg would be terminated from reseller/distribution contracts.

Well I actually was able to order it at 9:05 Tuesday morning on amazon from amazon not from a marketplace seller for 499. It immediately went out of stock after my order went through. The order has been sitting there waiting for a delivery estimate since. I'm just going to let it sit there and see if it gets fulfilled at that price.
