They dropped driver support for Windows 8.1 a while ago.

Maybe another person who is in the same position as you are will chime in what / if they got to work.

I don't think that newer hardware has been supporting anything older then Windows 10 since 2017, maybe even late 2016.

This crap is absurd. Why would they support 7 and not 8.1 .ffs. I can upgrade myOS to 10 but support for my current mobo is flaky.

Probably based on the number of users who use it. Very few end-users stuck with Windows 8.1. It was the most hated OS since Windows Vista. There is primarily two camps of users: People who will use Windows 7 until they absolutely can't, and Window 10 users.

What motherboard do you have that doesn't work well with Windows 10?

Might need to update BIOS.

Also, Windows 10 was a free upgrade and I was happy to bail on Windows 8 ASAP!

edit: My motherboard doesn't have any Windows 10 drivers. Thankfully, every driver needed is updated on the website of the manufactured component. The only driver I cannot get is my wireless driver, but Windows 10 uses a generic one that works great. I have yet to run into an old(ish) computer that cannot run Windows 10 with full functionality.

So i used ddu, then installed the card.

Put the new card in , booted up , things took forever.

I downloaded the win 7 drivers , and chose express install.

Installed drivers ,lost on board audio and only had hdmi out.

Went into device manager and did update driver on missing audio bus.

Speakers are back. Everything seems ok kinda so far.. I can load up tomb raider and play it... so...

I guess the next step is upgrade the mobo / cpu / ram.

I've used the Win7 drivers for my Polaris GPU in Win8.1 ever since they stopped updating the 8.1 drivers. Never had any issues.
