RX 480 + Samsung s23a700d HDMI

I just installed my new RX 480 with my old monitor Samsung S23a700d via HDMI. Before when I used dvi cable with my old video card I got 120 hz selectable in the display adapter option, now with HDMI and the new video card I can only select 60 hz in display adapter and in games.
Any idea why is this?

Yeah, you need to use dvi for 120 Hz.

Best return that 480 if you can, and get an aftermarket card with dvi port when they're available.

You'd need an active adapter for dual link dvi. Somewhat expensive, but I suppose it's worth it if the card can't be returned.

Or use this as an excuse to upgrade the monitor 😛

Well, Thank you for the comments, yes, it seems its onlt 60 hz with hdmi. Actually it doesnt matter so much as I crank the games to the highest possible settings so I stay around 50-60 fps. I prefer quality of the picture than high fps.

And there was no adapter inside in my Saphire RX 480.

A lot of early 120/144hz monitors only accepted dual link DVI to drive those refresh rates. While I agree DVI is kind of a silly port these days, there's still a large demand for it so not including a port on the reference card (or ensuring an active adapter is included) is a bit of a kick in the nuts.

You have three options, be limited to hdmi, buy an expensive adapter (you need the active, usb $90ish one), or return the card and buy one of the after market ones that come with DVI port.

I'd go with option 3 assuming you are happy with the card performance. The custom boards will also have better coolers and will likely perform better, but might be an extra $10-20.
