RWD pickup/van owners, do you ever get stuck in steep driveways/hills?

Current I drive a decade old van with a rather unusual RWD setup. It's got the outer shell, seats, furnishing, etc so I'm guessing it's just slightly heavier in t he rear than the typical 2WD pickup trucks(RWD).

A little while ago, I got stuck in my friend's driveway. The driveway at one of my friend's house is very steep. I went in nose-in and when I tried to back out later, the wheels kept on burning out and I wasn't able to back out. I had to have a few people sit in the far back seat and finally backed out successfully.

Do you guys with a 2WD pickup ever run into this kind of problem?

vroom...

I've only gotten my Taco stuck once... Went blind into a mud puddle that turned out to be wayyy too deep. Mud up to the level of the body... For anybody who knows the body clearance on a Taco, that's quite the "puddle". It turned out to just be a gaping hole, when it looked like a shallow splash-through type depression. It was especially too much for the Long Trail T/A's I have. Can't wait for these tires to wear down so I can get some good AT's or MT's...

weeeee me too shift into 4wd and then off i go!

This is a Taco.

not the most impressive picture, but its the only one i have on my comp... It's from an area called Kelly Flats, in northern Colorado... Not flat at all, with obstacles such as "Heart-Attack Hill" being the main attractions... 🙂

anybody in CO wants to go offroading this summer, I'm game. (yeah, im looking that far ahead... shows how sad my life here is)

Mine weighs about 4.5 grand, '87 GMC Vandura 2500 (G20) with about a ton of equipment piled on top. You'll learn - never try to back up a hill in a large vehicle - PERIOD. Even multi-ton utility trucks can't pull that off, and almost all their weight is right above the drive axle.

And no, I've never been stuck at the bottom of a hill. It takes some learnin when the ice comes around, though. You have to learn when to stomp it. The nice thing about these heavy vehicles is that there's virutally no risk of burning your tires, even if you stand on it from a stop.

You really shouldn't drive around with an empty cargo area, either. Toss a few sandbags back there or somthing.
