thats not the future car...

I am willing to bet that the Caddy wil be an AWD only vehicle... that would allow them to make it seem more RWD than not...

i guess that's what happens when you're billions upon billions in debt and trying to claw your way out :(

Yeah, R&D will get hacked, projects will get cut. There simply won't be any funding for new projects. It costs a lot of money to develop a car and when you're hemorrhaging money it's hard to justify future development projects.

That Lacrosse actually looks pretty nice, even though it looks just like a Camry

Just goes to show they haven't learned anything from Cimarron.
I think they'd be better off keeping the CTS as their entry model than diluting their brand like this.

X3, with sheetmetal updates, interior tweaks, and motor tweaks, the existing RWD CTS should be competitive for quite some time.

I wonder what percentage of people that gripe about all the models that are getting cancelled/axed actually would have bought the cars...or any GM for that matter

As with most luxury items, part of what you are paying for with luxury car is brand status and image. GM needs to rebuild the Cadillac brand before I would seriously consider one. It is making progress with its current offering, but this car would set them back. Ford tried it with Jaguar X-type, GM tried it with Caddy Catera, Nissan with Infiniti I30, etc. All it does is dilute the brand image, which damages other product's appeal. GM already has a brand for FWD luxury, it's called Buick. Cadillac needs a Halo car that people can associate with the brand, they should have made something out of that Sixteen concept, maybe with a more realistic engine, but that would have been a modern day equivalent of a Duesenberg if done right and would have done wonders for the brand image.

What would you expect out of the new OM (Obama Motors)? They're going to be cranking out a bunch of cars designed by bureaucrats.

I am done with GM and Chrysler until the government gets their hands out of them.

It gets 50mpg and does 0-60 in 10 seconds flat!

I was just thinking this. An enthusiast forum is not a valid representation of the general public. For example, we can get all excited about the Pontiac G8 or a RWD Cadillac, but that doesn't transfer into many (if any) sales for GM. If the general public wants another boring Camry/Accord with FWD and no pizazz, then that's what GM is going to (and should) make.

It's much like an enthusiast A/V forum going crazy over Pioneer plasmas and how their quality trumps everything else on the market. The general public obviously doesn't share that enthusiasm, and now Pioneer is out of the plasma business.

It's a shame that high-quality products often get axed in favor lower-quality competitors, but there's not much we as individuals can do about it. You would think with as many anandtech members as we have and all of them making 6-figure incomes, that we could make more of a difference in the economy.

against. i think business should succeed or fail on their own merits. the only argument for the bailouts that i actually considered was for national security and the use of GM's manufacturing capacity should we get into another big war.

the bailout wouldn't be as bad if the government did not get common stock and the voting rights that go along with it ... but it was really about that all along.

i don't want to see any business fail (or people lose jobs because of it), but i definitely don't want my tax money supporting a failed business.

GM should go bankrupt and either restructure or fold up the tent.

Against. Going bankrupt would have been the best outcome for the automakers.

What does GM care?

As long as citizens of the United States vote for political hacks who subsidize failure and incompetence, the consumer is not going to get anything decent from the subsidized company.

uh

According to the source, GM 166 will be bigger than its LaCrosse and Insignia cousins and will arrive sometime in 2011.

lacrosse is huge:
Fuel economy is estimated at a moderate 18mpg city/27mpg highway for the 3.0L V6, and 17/26 for the 3.6L unit. Curb weights are 3,948lb (1,741kg) for the base CX, 4,018lb (1,822kg) for the CXL with FWD, 4,199lb (1,904kg) for the CXL AWD and 4,065lb (1,844kg) for the CXS.

are they sure they aren't looking at a replacement for the DTS rather than the BTS?
