X1700XT should be faster then X1800XT, and quite a beast when it comes to the "gemini" version, and those x1800's got to go, cuz having a card named x1700 being faster than x1800 is akward

Edit - Unless of course it's named X1900XL

So this thing is essentially 2 X1600XT's on one card then? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the X1600XT Ultra-suck? I mean all things considered like price/performance.

i think rv 570 will be called x1900 xl.The r580+ comes in 2 flavours.1 with 512mb and higher clock speeds called the x1950 xt(i guess) and the other x1950 xl with 256 mb of onboard memory. This was stated a while back.
rv 560 will be there to take out the 7300 gt(or atleast offer some competition)cause the current x1300 cards are taking a beating.

I think this thing is going to suck. Price is a concern considering it's two GPU cores and extra complexity. Performance should be ok but I'm not sold on it being a good bang for the buck card. A Nov time frame seems to clash with the release of ATI's new cards based on the R600 core at the end of the year as well.

yeah but the x1600xt was not meant to compete with the 6600gt. when they were released the x1300 was priced to compete with the 6600gt and it lost miserably.

x800gt/gto/gto2 were released long long after 6600gt had dominate the market (end of 2005)

no, it looks like RV560 is two X1600s in one chip, and RV570 is three X1600s in one chip (in the same way than an X1900 is four X1600s in one chip). then those RV560 and RV570 chips are paired up on a board.

the picture in the thread is RV530 gemini, or X1600XT gemini, but i don't think those boards will see the light of day. X1600 is just too slow.

IF RV570 is as fast as the part i've been describing in the thread, a gemini board would be the fastest radeon board.

if the specs posted earlier are right, that RV560 is 24/8, then RV560 will be faster than X1600 by quite a bit. it'll take on the 7600GT head to head.

my guess: the X1600 and X1300 will probably stick around at the $60 to $75 and $90 to $125 price points. an X1700 RV560 would take the $150ish price range, and a RV570 X1900XL the $250 range.

Since ATi is releasing R580+(or X1950XT?), the RV570 is probably the new X1900XL (or X1950XL?). Looks great and i cant wait til what the performance of this GPU will be.

But then, i keep hearing the G80 will launch around september and october so i guess the rest of the 7 series will start to fall in price to create a gap for the $599 mark. (Im also thinking that NV needs to sell as may G71 cores, hence instead of creating a new core for maybe a 32 pipe monster, they instead went for a dual GPU based card i.e the 7950GX2).

I just hope ATi doesnt screw up for the mid range market.
i'm guessing RV570 will go by the x1700 xt name

x600 to x700 last time around.

this is likely to be the mid range part that ATi has around for holiday 2006. i'd guess that nvidia will have a new mid range part out by then, but then again the 6600GT lasted forever (and we got the holiday special 6800GS)

Latest rumor is the rv570 will be a 36/12 configuration, and the rv560 is a 24/8 design. They only need the rv560 to be competitive with the 7600gt, and price it at under $200. The rv570, I'm guessing, is the replacement for the x1800xt and the x1900gt, except on a smaller process and most likely using a separate ASIC, instead of disabling quads on the r580.
36/12 would probably need 256 bit wide memory to keep it pumped. at the speeds fuad is quoting it'd probably just squeak by the 7900GT where the 1900GT is losing.

based on that information i'm revising my speculation, and giving the RV570 the X1900XL marketing name. RV560 would then be X1700.

actually, it was the V5500 and V6000. the V3 was single chip in all incarnations. prior to the V5 there was the quantum 3d obsidian boards using voodoo and voodoo 2 chips.
hey look, they've got two boards in a single slot too!

Based on the information I read from HKPEC, RV560 is probably going to go against the 7600 GT, with the RV570XL going against the 7800GT/7900 GS level, and finally with the RV570XT going against the 7800GTX/7900 GT level.

These are ranges ATI really needs to address, it's the ranges where ATI doesn't have good cheap to produce parts in, X1800 GTO, X1800 XT and X1900 GT are much to expensive to make for ATI in these particular price ranges.
